Porter was arguably winning the fight, as many thought on this site.

The only reason Crawford won by TKO was because Porter's dad threw the towel in to save the Crawford-SPence big money fight. Porter was knocked down yes, but he was not hurt looking at how stable his feet were after the second KD.

Well said bandeedo. I went through this with a coupe of posters a while back when this was being flirted with. The assumption they gave was Canelo and TC are essentially the same size, and all Bud had to do was not cut weight, since he enters the ring around 160 already. Said that’s not exactly how it works, and that fell upon deaf ears unfortunately. But you put it well there. Bud would need to add more muscle and bulk up as well. That could change his game enough to give himself issues.

Porter was fighting like a linebacker, muscling Crawford around. Canelo fights nothing like Porter. In fact, Canelo really use his body to win fights like Porter does.

Crawford is one of the most protected and overrated fighters of the last 20 years it blows my mind how soft is resume is and people think he’s this unstoppable wrecking machine

they have the same height and wingspan, but one is built more like an eagle, while the other more like a stork.

He was busier, yes, and yes, he was winning rounds, but he wasn't winning the fight imo. Bud has the kind of ring IQ where he knows how to control the flow of a fight, he can lose rounds while still being in control of the action. Monzon did something similar. Shawn's dad threw in the towel because he knew how good of a finisher Bud is and didn't want to see any more damage done to his son, I don't think it was early and I don't think if he let Shawn continue he'd have any success with Bud out for blood. Has been a hot minute since I watched the fight though, so I'll have to rewatch it when I get the chance and see how I tally up my scorecard. From what I remember though, I don't think I had Porter up on the cards by the time of the stoppage, but I tend to score for clean punching over messy volume.

And the only instance they weigh close to the same is after Canelo had a successful training camp while TC hits Golden Corral and eats a ton.

This is the biggest lose lose for Canelo that's ever existed in boxing.

If Canelo wins, he's beaten up a 40 year old guy moving up 3 weight classes.

If Canelo loses, as I expect, he's completely humiliated by losing to a guy moving up 3 weight classes.

There isn't any scenario where Canelo receives even an ounce of credit here.

But I would eat h the fight just for the pure intrigue.

Realistically speaking Bud was always a big boy masquerading as a 140lber and 135lber early in his career (crazy that he actually even made lightweight tbh). He's even enormous for welter, with his walk around weight for years now being circa LHW.

So the idea this is some massive mismatch in size is wrong, even though the bald fact of a guy that won welterweight unification under a year ago taking on the SMW champ feels...off.

Bud won't be bullied or out-muscled, which means this is down to skill.

Canelo by brutal KO. Crawford has been hurt by lesser punchers and Canelo has ate shots from larger punchers without even phasing him. This is just a money grab.

Ricky Hatton "walked around" between fights near 180. He sure as heck wasn't a LtHW/Cruiser.

None of these guys fight at their walk around weight IB. I feel too much is given on this page to that.

Yes but he was also famously called Ricky Fatton and his elasticity on the scales always coming down from such pudginess was considered a newsworthy thing in how anomalous it was.

Terence walks around between fights in the 170s, at times even tipping over 180, and is still in decent enough "gym shape" when he's that heavy. His average rehydration in every division he's campaigned in has been 16-18lbs from the weigh-in to next day. He's larger than many think. Gigantic welter. His build at 5'8" is probably most accurately that of a natural 154 or 160. (the same thing Canelo was considered to be until about 2016-17)
