"That's one throw you cannot do," McCarthy said. "The only other time I've seen it was when Bob Sapp did it to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in Pride." --------------- I had no idea that the pile driver was also banned. I mean yeah it sure looked ****ing dangerous when it happened. (i thought nog was gonna get killed at the time)... but anyway , here's something interesting... McCarthy, ABC to Review Grounded Knees' http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=13148
Yes, spiking an opponent directly on his head is illegal in the UFC and was illegal in Pride. However, I have never seen it enforced once. Another example is from the Diego Sanhez/Karo fight, at one point Karo flipped Diego right onto the top his a skull.
pride was the best organisation because no spiking was not illegal... look at fedor vs randleman,,, also grounded knees and soccer kicks and stomps were all legal in pride which is awsome because i believe they are a necessary in mixed martial arts.. if u watch the pride fights 98% of the time they are so much more intense and so much more entertaining than UFC fights...especially when one guy gains north-south position
The use of the yellow cards, and threatening a fighter's purse also seemed to be effective. Pride did not allow elbows, because of how the use of elbows could cause fights to end quickly due to cuts. I like the elbows being included, but I wouldn't mind trading them off for grounded knees, soccer kick, and stomps. Is it stamps? I don't know
I want Bob Sapp vs. Kevin Ferguson!!!!!! Or Bob Sapp vs. Brock Lesnar!!! Ah, but seriously, Bob Sapp was a very entertaining mixed martial-artist (though his greatest hits probably came more from K-1 Kickboxing). His match with Nogeira was a classic, as he was dominating Nogeira badly, but ends up gassing, and being arm-barred. I wonder what he's doing right now. I think if he was marketed properly in America he'd be a HUGE attraction. He's already huge in Japan (though, due to inactivity, he may not have the same pull as before).
Was Fedor Randleman really a spike though? Fedor (miraculously) landed on the his back/lower nape and not on his head..
