I tried the 2 pints of guinness and a bag of chips then ran the next day i set out to run 6 miles and did it with relative ease.
2 pints of guinness and a bag of chips will do nothing for you at all. If you train like the SAS it's nothing. For a boxer it's nothing. It's long term nutrition that is more important.
No offense but the Legion is rougherthen the Marines. And they do have a selection course. The Marines you have to be healthy to join and you are screened before entering-you do not have to be in peak shape upon entering bootcamp although it woud be a good idea to be in good shape.
I think the bag of chips and a few drinks is also about having a decent state of mind. These guys work hard and do alot of shitty things while in training so a chance to relax has got to be taken and can give the guys a good mental lift before the next part of training. Unfortunetly the horror stories coming from the barracks of how badly our troops are being fed means that a bag of chips is probably the routine for them.
A bag of chips would be full of carbs but i would have thought that they'd consume a lot of complex carbs like pasta and stuff.
Far from it. You've got to pass potential Legionnaire selection. The don't take in ****. Anyway, as others have said, SAS are extremly fit, so a pint and a pack of cheese & onion here and there is nothing.
Also on the final endurance march which is 45 miles with 60 pound bergan on you back plus your rifle you are given 20 hours to complete it and at the checkpoints they feed you mars bars.
SAS and SBS are the best special forces in the world bar NONE,that is a fact.Best regular forces British Para and Royal Marine again FACT.Allmost every special Forces the world over are based on SAS training and methods, again thats fact.
there was a famous athletic sprinter who ate mars bars after a run. forget name. anyone saw micheal phelps hit diet. it's 12000 calories and full of (bad??) carbs http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7562840.stm unbelievable.
