I do greatly respect the route he has chosen to get a title. Especially when he could beat Iggy, Chagaev or Maskaev (at the time).

 

But you also know, that neither of these other champions are available at the moment/for some time...though we will only have 3 champs after February 23...

Chagaev will fight in December/January in a voluntary defence of his WBA belt and then wants to fight in his home country of Uzbekistan (where I expect another WBA top15 guy), then he has his mandatory in front of him by late summer '08.

Wlad will unify with Iggy, then has to fight Thompson - but wait - why not make a super-eliminator (I think the IBF and WBO will love this idea, gaining the same sanction fee as if it would be championship bout), as Wlad would have to pay some delay-money to make this attractive to both Povetkin and Thompson. In the meantime Wlad can pound on David Tua to settle Shelly Finkels problems with Scott Hirsch.

And finally we have the WBC never-ending story including Sam Peter, Oleg Maskaev (those will fight in Febuary) and Vitali Klitschko. In May, the winner of the afore mentioned fight has to go 1-on-1 with Vitali (don't hurt yourself). After this one, the winner has to fight the winner of the final WBC eliminator between JC Gomez and Virchis/Rahman (if Rahman don't have the guts to step into the ring with the Ukrainian slugger, Virchis will go on and directly fight Gomez for the mandatory spot there) - so the situation in the WBC might finally clear up in autumn of 2008.

 

Old excuse. Most of the football players you're thinking of are on steroids and do serious weight lifting for strength and bulking, they would be much much smaller as boxers. Also they have rugby, hockey, basketball and soccer in the former USSR, all of that sucks up talent too. Tired excuse, these guys are just good and better than their American counterparts.

Anyway I think Povetkin stops Chambers.

 

Everything goes in cycles, 2 years ago it was all american champs, you had Ruiz WBA, Bryd IBF, Rahman WBC, Brewster WBO. The way EUROS are going its seems they rather lose there titles by backing out of fights, rather getting in the ring and actually fighting. :yep

 

Last I checked Klitschko and Ibragimov are trying to make a unification fight, Chagaev is waiting on the winner of Valuev vs Lyakhovich.

 

Chagaev has been out of the ring since april and will probably fight in january, he backed out of his fight with Iggy. Maskaev has held WBC hostage for a while now and hasnt fought a real contender since Rahman in sept of 06. I dont think I should have to go over how many times Vitali lost his fights in training camp do I? He held the WBC hostage for over a year until he had to give it up for not fighting Rahman.

 

Really? are you sure? I never heard of an elimination torney at the WBC going on. When Virchis vs Rahman is suposed to go down?


I think/hope Povetkin beats Chambers, he is the only one out of this tournament capable of having a chance with Wlad.

 

Agreed - after last night I'm starting to see Chambers as mostly hype. if Brock wasn't so tentative he could've won the fight fairly easily.

This tournament is really about deciding the next Wlad KO victim, though. None of these guys stand a chance against him, and two of them were recently stopped by him!
