I was watching boxing 360 and it struck me just how much of this Super Six happening we owe to Sauerland. I found that along with his clear professionalism when the other Promoters were bickering he was the one negotiating to make it happen almost as if he were the sole bridge between them. Here's some points to note: * Began initial negotiations with Showtime for the tournament * He brought Abraham into it * Brought Kessler into it. Especially important since Kessler is the regarded no.1 SMW and of course he had loads of issues with Palle - quiet an accomplishment! * Did everything he could to make the negotiations easier - point in fact the DiBella/Taylor money issues he brokered that arose when the fact Taylor would be fighting the two top fighters in the tournament in stage 1 & 2. * General superiority in clarity of the situation and understanding of the impact(s) in general of the tournament I think we owe the man a great debt. Sure he's brokered some dodgy home decisions but he is a promoter. I honestly don't think this would have gotten off the ground with the other promoters they're just too financially self centric to look at he bigger picture.
You forgot to include the part where he made sure neither Pavlik nor Bute got invited because he is scared shitless Abraham and Kessler would have to face them!
You forgot the part where Pavlik gets a sudden staph infection and Bute opts out to fight another home town defence!
but somehow they invited a powerpunching Froch, and excellent boxers in Ward and Dirrell.....your logic is just flawless. I recall there was an interview with Pavlik where he called this whole tournament a joke, and that these guys fighting in it are ruining their careers for peanuts....
He'll no doubt bring a lot of the judges and refs into the tournament as well and that's where he's likely to prove himself a pure **** again.
It's Kalle, not Wilfried Sauerland, his father and founder of Sauerland Events. W. Sauerland is one of those old promoters, in the business for decades, using all the tricks, you could see how well he and King understood each other co-promoting Valuev. Kalle is his son, who I believe was born in South Africa and my guess would be he got British education. He only got involved with boxing lately. Speaking fluent English and sounding like one I think played a major part getting this tournament together, whether it was his idea or Ken Hershman's. Seems like he learned his stuff how to negotiate, and having a word as strong as Shaw's, Hennessy's, DiBella's and Goossen's is quite impressive given his age (how old is he actually?) I'd like to get more input on Kalle, anyone got any further info on the kid?
You forgot Andrade is Bute' mandatory, like Perdomo was for Kessler. You also forgot that Bute lost the purse bid to GBP. What can he do if his opponent's promoter choses to fight in Quebec city?
Besides that evrybody was asking ofr the rematch and now it's ''another hometwon fight'':rofl:rofl I can see after Bute beats Andrade again these guys will ask for the rubbermatch.:rofl
Kelly Pavlik: "Why would I be in that tournament when Im a middleweight? They never asked me and I never wanted to join. Let them beat each other up. Let them ruin their careers for peanuts." Gotta love that Warrior attitude. :rofl
Well, Abraham was asking for a chance to give his Youngstown fans a show, but was never invited. "Let them beat each other up. Let them ruin their careers for peanuts." Kelly Pavlik :happy :happy :happy
Four of Ring Magazine's top six supermiddleweights were not invited. The number one middleweight in the world was not invited. Dawson and Hopkins can both make 168, but neither was invited. Dirrell, a completely unproven prospect was invited. Ward, a contender whose best win was a damaged Miranda was invited. Abraham, a guy who lived off McKart and Joval left overs, was invited. Taylor, a guy who lost 3 of his last 4, and got knocked out twice got invited. Just the facts folks.
Bute never opted to anything. He was never in the discussions; nobody ever invited him. Sauerland did a good job here though. With Sauerland and Oner doing good jobs of putting together important cards, hopefully they'll make Universum more and more irrelevant. They're still in the stone age in terms of making good fights.
Hopkins is not going to enter a ****ing six man 18 month long tournament. Jesus christ that should be obvious. Dawson is making his name at 175. I doubt we'll ever see him at 168 again. Pavlik and Bute should of been invited from the very start. But neither of them seem to unhappy at being left out do they.
