No, but Galento fought what would be a super middleweight and got stopped, that’d guy would also probably be draining down to 160lbs or even 154lbs in the modern era. Canelo would be weighing in the late 180lbs.
Galento got stopped by a guy who weighed 168lbs in the ring, that’d guy would be making 160 or even 154lbs today. Canelo would be weighing like 188lbs in the ring.
The honest answer is it depends on what degree of fouling the ref allows ... if its like Galento - Nova Canelo gets mugged ... if the rules are enforced Cnelo can coast to a decision ...
You are seriously underselling Al Gainer, who unlike Canelo fought in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions throughout his entire career and was willing to fight the best available in both divisions. Gainer didn’t care about giving up 30 or 40 pounds and had a good record against top heavyweights. Canelo on the other hand has been very selective on who he fights at light heavyweight and was unwilling to fight Badu Jack or Makabu at the cruiserweight limit. He tried to require a 180 lbs catchweight for both fights, so despite his amazing talent Canelo is completely unproven as a heavyweight.
On the surface, what you said seems like common sense, but I feel like he has a chance since Al Gainer stopped him who weighed 168lbs in the ring. When Canelo weighs in at 168lbs, he’s coming in the ring at like 185lbs, so with no need to weight drain, he’d be fighting Galento at like 188lbs, 20lbs heavier than Al Gainer.
Many of the guys Canelo fights are weighing in the ring, what heavyweights in the 1940s weighed. He also spars modern heavyweights, so he has experience dealing with the size.
You clearly love making this claim and I don't think you believe it , purely an attempt to agitate ... it is kinda funny , like saying Max Baer is the same as Lennox Lewis.
