No I don't think so I'm a fan, but he has had too much go in his favour regarding results etc I do think he is a great boxer and obviously has improved over time, but he will not go down like Floyd or Manny who imo are guys that are around top 20 all time. Maybe higher!
The answer to this question for many fans is...... Are you ignoring the obvious Peds abuse , officiating skullduggery, blatant favoritism , cherry pickin ' etc If not then there is no way in hades he gets anywhere close. The kid can FIGHT but can he still win LEGITIMATELY!!, without the "help" he received ? I believe the answer is NO!!!!!!!!!
He's a good fighter, no doubt about it. Canelo has had too many wikipedia building fights to make him a great of that magnitude. Look at the absurd talk about him going to to get a CW title a few weeks ago. Every move he makes is calculated to minimize risk and maximize his wikipedia. Real boxing fans are seeing this happen and when you add in the many other question marks and suspicious circumstances, the GGG loss and then draw, etc etc, it illegitimates much of what he's done.
Alvarez is not there yet but he could get there. He has the accomplishments but not enough wins over other ATG's. He has a 1-1-1 record against his two best opponents and that record needs to improve. The problem is that there are no current ATGs in his various weight classes. That isn't his fault but timing is a part of legacy. By the time anyone from 160 to 175 builds their resume enough to be an all time great Canelo will be too old to beat them
I once believed Canelo was just a red-headed flash in the pan who would be lucky to win a belt and defend it once or twice at best. I also predicted he would get KTFO by GGG. Never imagined he'd ever be HOF worthy. So............
You don't get to the top 20 by losing or robbing your best opponents, in top of being busted for PED use in the meantime.
He has a 0-3 record vs his 2 best opponents, lets be honest. Both of whom were 3-4 years past their primes
