Saul “Canelo” Alvarez weighed in at 151.8 pounds for his 154lb WBC world title match against Matthew Hatton on Saturday. Unfortunately for Alvarez, the bout against welterweight Hatton is being being fought at a 150lb catch weight (four pounds under the division limit), so he needs to drop 1.8 pounds. Hatton weighed 149.6 pounds. The Hatton camp had previously threatened to pull out if Alvarez didn’t make the weight, however the more likely scenario is he would settle for 10% of Alvarez’ purse ($35,000) in the event Canelo can’t drop the weight. Canelo would also be fined an additional 10% of his purse by the California Commission.
brillant. he is weight drained. almost a kilo off is quite a bit weight drained. hopefully matthew can get him now.
Can't be any heavier than 11st 6lbs on the night. Could be a tough few hours for Canelo leading up to the fight.
