My dad was raving about him because I taped his fight along with the main event. Alvarez is everything I want in a fighter, but he needs to be brought on slowly. 19 years of age, he shouldn't be going for a world title until he's 21 at least.

agreed, which is why id like to see them throw him in with Cotto again. Although i dont expect others to agree with me, i think it would be a good learning experience again for him.

Yeah, the first fight was entertaining, see if the kid is learning and he should be able to get Cotto out of there quicker. Cotto was the right opponent for a 19 year old Alvarez, game, capable of throwing punches and taking punches.

You understand now why he is my favorite prospect....and you teased me about him all is forgiven.

I guess your change of opinion came from this fight.

In all honesty, my opinion hasn't changed. I knew Alvarez was super talented, but I do admit, some of his combinations off the ropes made me get flashbacks off 122lbs Marco Antonio Barrera. The way he doubled up his left to body and head. He has unlimited potential.

That being said, you said that Alvarez was third in line at Welterweight behind Mosley and Mayweather. ...That's nuts.

I think what I said that he was the third best fighter on the card...incidentally I think he needs a new trainer hopefully and to spar with better talent...

The kid looked good. It'll be interesting to see how long he can stay comfortably at 147.
I agree with mosy here, they need to bring him along slowly, let him learn and develop his tool kit - especially the jab.
Loved the feints he was showing with his hands, showed he was trying to set up the shots he wanted to throw and watching how his opponent was reacting to different movements.
Seems like the kind of fighter that people want to watch anyway - so no doubt we'll be seeing more of him soon enough.

Am I the only one to think he lacks speed?

Okay someone like Margarito became champion and is quite slow, but he at least had a great chin.

He's no slower than a prime Julio Cesar Chavez, who didn't need blinding hand speed to land his combination's, his accuracy and timing was enough.

Is Alvarez slow handed? Not at all. Watching him throw three-four punch combination's with both hands is a beautiful thing.

You might be right, but it will probably be two or three years before we know for sure.

Still he has captured my interest, so I will be monitoring his progress from here on.

shades of DLH vs. JJ Molina...first stiff test, faced some adversity, fought through it.

How they handle his match making will determine everything.

Totally agree...This kid'd concus Chavez Jr...simply too well skilled and he lets his hands go beautifully...Most impressed by the way he could fight going backwards..his uppercuts are a thing of beauty...Chavez Jr will be in a world of trouble against this kid...simply too slow and does'nt hit hard enough...

Beautiful skills and heart on this lad...He's gotta start working on his defence tho'..and learn to stay off the ropes whe he can..against a good puncher that could be suicidal..

Great prospect..Miles ahead of Chavez Jr.

Not surprised some are dogging on him for getting rocked - the amount of hate Khan got and still gets is rather silly. Have to be consistent right? Saying that, give Alvarez 5 or so years and he'll be an absolute beast. The fight made me an instant fan.

Although I agree, it must be said, Khan wasn't hit with a left hook that sent him to the ropes, he was blown into orbit.
