According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, he is close to finalizing a deal to match unbeaten Saul Alvarez against England's Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KOs), the younger brother of former world champion, Ricky Hatton, in an HBO televised fight on March 5 in Los Angeles. Schaefer had targeted Alavarez (35-0-1, 26 knockouts) for a bout against WBA welterweight champ Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KOs). He says "the Senchenko people are out-pricing themselves. But, the deal for Alvarez vs. Hatton is close.:deal

I hate this fight I really do. I just knew when GBP threw out the names of Senchenko,Zaveck and Matthew Hatton that Matthew Hatton was going to be the one picked. Just like when Ricky Hatton had to choose either Junior Witter(WBC Champ), Gavin Rees(WBA champ) and Juan Lazcano (former LW contender) that Juan Lazcano was going to be the one to get picked.

Go Alvarez! I'm thinking by T/KO in the 6-9th... I have high hopes for Alvarez, to the point where a win for Hatton would probably finish top 3 in upsets of the year.

I think its a decent fight to make at this stage of Alvarez's career.

Could set up bigger fights in the future, and its better than fighting past prime Ndou and Baldomir

explain to me how a Baldomir at 154, semi retired, fat, is a more meaningful fight that M.Hatton

Im not really praising M.Hatton but at least hes actually active.

  11. they are carefully matching Alvarez now, he wins this by ko. Things didnt work out with ortiz so dlh decided to make alvarez the new mexican ginger golden boy.
If Alvarez is able to win a belt they will want pacquiao early 2012. Dont forget that alvarez struggled with larry mosley. I have a feeling that he is a ko waiting to happen. allthough i hope not, he is young and has a great record for his age. plus a ginger mexican great boxer is fun.

I never meant meaningful, I meant tougher. Besides, N'Dou should have got the verdict over Matty when they fought no so long ago.

    You think so?

I thought Hatton won a close but clear decision.

It's not really a backward step for Alvarez...he'll be facing a guy who is full of confidence, probably reaching his peak.

Good test, and brings him closer to World Level.

Hatton beat Ndou that night, alot of people agree to that aswell.

in terms of toughness, an active, fit, Hatton is way tougher than a shot and spent Baldomir that didn't fight for like a year before facing Alvarez.

So again i will re-iterate my point. Alvarez vs Hatton is a step forward
