Canelo has basically already grown into a middleweight frame (nevermind that Chavez has basically grown into a cruiserweight frame...) and will probably be looking to move up soon having lingered around the 154lb division for two years and watched most of the high-profile money bouts dry up. So this is feasible for the near future.

If GBP and Top Rank can hop in bed together, this could be ma$$ive in Mexico...even with Julio no longer having his zero as a marketing tool.

    Who takes it? :bbb

    Saul would definitely stop him!

Julio would have no answer for the combination punching/variation imo

Martinez utterly skooled da fool, but Jr. showed heart. Still, Saul is a beast of his own, he'd not move around but sit down on his punches and trade with Jr., and you trade with Canelo and you're done for, forget the weight.

However I don't think Daddy Chavez, Godfather Jose, Bobfater Arum or the Roachfather wants any elite fight, rematch included immediately.

Chavez, TKO. If he can take Martinez's punches, he can take Canelo's. It's just difficult to take much into Alvarez beating Lopez, even though he looked the sharpest I've ever seen him. Chavez's chin just doesn't have the question marks that Alvarez's does for me and at the end of the day with a chin like Chavez's that's what it will come down to.

Would definitely be a step up for Canelo. I'd rather see Canelo vs Martinez at 160 and JCC vs Macklin or see any of them top dogs try survive some rounds against GGG

Chavez is huge man, I dunno. I think he may well beat Canelo, Martinez is a special talent. If they were the same size then sure Canelo would win easily.

martinez just showed its about skill not size, and canelo has size in his favor anyways with skills as well :bbb:bbb

Yeah but Martinez is bigger than Canelo isn't he? When Chavez had him against the ropes Martinez was strong enough to muscle him about, would it be the same with Canelo? I'd always take skill over size but in Chavez Jr's case it really is a HUGE size advantage.

I expect it to be a landslide of votes in Canelo's favour because of tonight's events, that's usually how it works but I dunno, I'd have to think about it some more.

Would be great but I like them both and don't want either one to lose. I pick Chavez on size.

I don't think so, at all.

Martinez has always been a natural light middleweight, nothing more and nothing less. A little big for welter, but pretty small at middle. (even now, having settled into the division for a couple of years) Like Goldilocks trying out **** at the 3 Bears' crib, 154 was juuuuuust right for him.

Canelo is 22 ****ing years old and was a freakish super-sized welterweight in his teens. He's an enormous light middleweight now. He could move up to 160 tomorrow and he'd hulk over guys like Rubio. (maybe giving up an inch or two of height, but he'd be much thicker-chested and wider of frame)

He'd face the exact same height differential as Martinez, and while he wouldn't be able to use fleet movement in the same way as that isn't his style, he'd also be landing far more hurtful combinations on Chavez's easily located chin.

That's a fair assessment. I just think people go overboard after results like these, a lot of Martinez's strategy was his movement and turning Chavez, Canelo couldn't do that to the same effect. I don't believe Canelo hit's as hard either and Chavez proved tonight that while he can be hit he will still be there come the end of the fight.

Would be interesting to see and I think it would be closer than people think especially with Canelo being more stationary than Martinez is.

Chavez can take a pretty good punch. Showed that tonight and even against lee. Canelo would not be able to di what martinez did for about 11 rounds. He would likely trade and when u trade shots with a guy 20lbs heavier ur asking to get hurt. I dont think canelo hits harder than martinez so how kould he hurt chavez more than him?
