I didn't see Canelo's fight. As a boxing fan I feel really bad for the way josesito has been sacrificed, and you should feel the same. But if you're ok with canelo fighting little welters, help yourself.

People do realize that 154 isn't Canelo's final destination, right?

Also, yes, I realize that Julio is probably also near ready to shed his skin and a departure for 168 may be imminent. If that happens, this match-up is probably dead in the water as I think SMW is a little bit of a stretch for the 5'9" ginger.

If Chavez hangs around middleweight long enough for Canelo to move up, however (which really shouldn't be long)...

    That's irrefutable, but here we're looking at the conceivable h2h match-up. 8)

Julio almost knocked out Martinez who is bigger, smarter, more experienced, and more mobile than Canelo.

    Julio by brutal stoppage

He almost knocked him out in the twelfth of a fight where Martinez had dazzled him with movement and expended more energy than he needed to perform the task in an attempt to prove a point, and where Martinez only began to tire and slow enough for Chavez to catch him with a few minutes to spare...and where Martinez was able to clown him after getting dropped without fear of being finished off.

We all know Chavez has power, but if you can't deliver that cargo to its destination or utilize it with a sound approach to finishing if and when you do catch someone with it, it isn't very useful.

Canelo would continually get off first and land NASTY hooks to JR's body, it wouldn't be JR coming on strong this time
edit: i know sergio landed body shots, a fair few but canelo is a vicious body puncher

jr is too big, too strong. he took some heavy shots from sergio and never bent. most of the deficiencies in his game are things i think he can learn to correct, which he is in the process of doing. the kid is still learning. when he pressed the action against the best middle in the world, he got some great shots in, shots i dont think canelo would stand up to. i dont think there would be a problem with jr not pressing the action and giving his all, given the significance of the fight in mexico and the history between these 2.

Canelo seems like the more talented fighter, Chavez is the more proven one. Still ya gotta take opposition in mind. Chavez showed he could beat top 10's of his division and give a tough battle to the best of his while Canelo hasn't. Canelo's gimmies can be making him look MUCH better than he actually is. TBF, 154 is up for grabs but I believe that we need to wait before making too dramatic predictions. I see the best of both ahead of them. Wish both well.

Unfortunately I don't see this fight happening. For one Chavez Jr may well be looking at a years suspension for his drug bust. And if so, I very much doubt he will be fighting at 160 again.

Secondly, I think Alvarez is going to hang around at 154 a little longer as he can land bigger fights (on a worldwide stage anyway) against Cotto in May (should Cotto get by Trout) and if he wins that, clearly Mayweather.

Thirdly even if the above doesn't come of I can see it coming apart at the negotiating table as they're back by rival promoters, rival TV networks and even rival beer company sponsors.

Should the fight happen I see Alvarez winning UD but surviving some pretty scary moments.

Man, I cannot believe the polls, Chavez Jr stops him by the 8th, fighters like Jose Cotto a lightweight have wobbled Canelo, A light heavyweight like Jr Would do him like Canelo did Josesito.

Ive thought for a long time that JR beats Canelo. I still believe it.

However, I wont believe it much longer, because I dont think we will ever see a healthy chavez at 160 again. If he comes back to 160 he will be weight drained for sure.

Chavez > Canelo head to head (imo)

I think Canelo will have the better career.
