On Vazquez's debut he fought Saul Alvarez at I think at Light Welterweight. And Alvarez won by Split Decision.

Kinda odd that Modern day champion's fought when they were just beginning there careers. ( Alvarez ( 2-0-0 ) and Vazquez ( Debut ) )

Same thing happened with Will Grigsby. He fought Michael Carbajal (making his pro debut) in his second fight. Carbajal obviously went on to become a hall of famer, while Grigsby himself went on to become a two-time titlist.
Current IBF lightweight titlist. Started his career as a welterweight, lost two razor thin decisions to Alvarez and gave Timothy Bradley his toughest test before his title shot against Junior Witter. Was one of Antonio Margarito's sparring partners when he was facing Miguel Cotto. Margarito thought he saw something, signed Vazquez and had him move down to lightweight, got him a real trainer and got him signed by Top Rank. Rest is history.
