At 154, I think this would be a hell of action fight. You have two guys who like to come forward and throw punches, and neither has great defense. I know Williams has more experience at the world class level, but he's still a crude volume puncher in my opinion with very leaky defense. Yes Alvarez is still young and green, but it's not like Williams is a smart, cerebral boxer who will take him to school. I think this would be a good rebound fight for Williams, as he's dreaming if he's thinks he's getting a big money fight with Mayweather or Pac coming off a brutal KO loss. I think this fight will also tell us a lot about Alvarez as a fighter, but if he loses, I think he can rebound just fine from it.
Wow..yeah. Good call. I can't believe this hasn't been talked about more. It would be a big step up for Canelo, but the Punisher doesn't seem as invincible as he did a couple of years ago coming off the Cintron mess and the Martinez rematch.
Seriously, I agree. Good call. Do you think Alvarez is polished enough and ready for that challenge? Saw some serious holes in his defense that could be exploited at the championship level. I still think he needs a couple more fights to work on some of his defensive technique. The kid is a beast, but physicality will only take you so far.
He does have some serious holes, but I'm not sure how much that will improve anyway, as he seems to have the type of mentality that he's gonna walk you down and doesn't give a **** about being hit. Plus Williams is not a huge puncher himself. He slaps a lot. Both of these guys are crude in my opinion and I think it will be a good battle of will, and heart.
The holes in his defense are honestly no bigger than those in PW's. Plus, we know PW can be hurt. Alvarez's chin is still an unknown factor.
Excellent points by both of you. I agree, would be action packed. PS -- IntentionalButt, Seen some of your posts before and just wanted to give you kudos. You seem to try to keep an objective attitude, and you know your boxing. Good poster.
Exactly, PW isn't the type of fighter to capitalize on Canelo's greeness. He's makes plenty of mistakes himself.
Sad but true IMO...This is the part thats killing boxing...Us paying fans have to suffer from this...Greedy ass promoter.
pwill would win pretty much every rd in this fight. Terrible match up for canelo and way to risky for GBP to make. They will avoid him like the plague and rightly so.
Sadly you are most likely correct but I think they could make some good money off this fight, and I think that there would be enough action that a loss wouldn't ruin Alvarez's marketability. I disagree. Paul Williams gets tagged a lot in almost every fight he's in and we don't know if his chin will ever be the same.
