Rhodes did hit him and he made him pause a couple of times, but then Rhodes just stepped back and waits for Alvarez to recover and come forward again. It did look slightly fishy.

Even against a lousy opponent who's not coming to fight, Alvarez is showing a few things: good fundamentals, pop, speed, occasional good left hooks to the body.

Things I would either like to see from Canelo or would like to see if he can do:

Higher activity. With Rhodes standing right in front of him and apparently without the power to hurt him, Canelo should be much more active. Most of the time when a fighter is hesitant in that situation, he is either looking to get rounds in, or is covering up a stamina or chin issue. (Note that the fight isn't over yet, and Alvarez picked up the pace in the 10th a bit).

Adjustments in defense/ring generalship. Don't get me wrong, Alvarez shows some good instincts in head movement and dodging, but he has been tagged straight down the middle from Rhodes a few times and doesn't seem to have done anything to adapt. Also, Alvarez is sometimes too willing to give ground, and will back up without Rhodes doing anything, and more important than that, when he starts giving ground like that he often backs straight back into the ropes rather than moving sideways and circling. That's a no-no.

What I really want to see though is how Canelo responds when faced with adversity from a fighter at or near his caliber/talent level. Cotto wasn't at that level. Until then, question marks remain around Alvarez.

Fight just stopped, Canelo handles things professionally, cleanly, if not in a knock you on your ass manner.

Rhodes is not trying to win, just survive.

    Nah.

Rhodes was given plenty of chances all night from the ref, who did a good job.

Too many unanswered shots, Rhodes wasn't even throwing, the ref had no choice.

Well Rhodes exceeded my expectations of him, my expectations were so bad though.

Almost made it to the end. Not a great effort by Rhodes early on.
