Alvarez does seem to lift his chin a bit when he throws and Rhodes is definately quick enough to take advantage.

I can see Alvarez outclassing Ryan. Either a comfortable points win or late stoppage.

Canelo will bully Rhodes and stop him late I think.

Rhodes will dominate him and stop him in the mid/late rounds.

    Alvarez really ain't all that.

    True, but...

    -Long layoff
    -Heat/altitutde???
-Is Rhodes really the man to do it? He may be fringe World class, but so is Alvarez by the looks of it.

All of that points to it being closer than what you predict IMO, even if Rhodes does pull a win out of his arse.

I have a strong feeling that Rhodes wins this and wouldn't be at all surprised to see the ref stop the fight after Saul takes a serious beating.

Alvarez by dtoppage anywhere from the 8th round onwards, Rhodes is tough and brave but I dont think he can handle Alvarez'z power.

I just think Alvarez is being thrown in a bit quick myself.

Sure, it's one thing beating straight up fighters like Hatton that can't punch, or faded pressure fighters like Baldomir and N'Dou - all of whom are significantly smaller and can't punch..... but it's another beating a technical fighter that can make you miss and land hard shots from awkward angles.

Obviously size isn't everything, but for the first time in his pro career Canelo will be up against someone the same size.

It's just going to be another example of a GBP fighter being chinned in their first test, IMO of course.

    Is he really?

I'm not particularly convinced...... he's not beaten a single fighter that Rhodes wouldn't have dominated easily.

Rhodes vs N'Dou would be embarrassing, 120-108 x3..... Baldomir a similar tale, whilst Ryan would have gotten Mad Matt out of there IMO.

There is a lot of hopeful optimism taking place in this thread...which I admire. But I really don't think a lot of you believe this stuff. I'd be surprised if Rhodes wins this fight. Hopefully I'm very wrong. I think Alvarez will probably win a decision or late stoppage.

I have been thinking the exact same , then I started to read all these threads saying Rhodes can do it. I just can't see it. Alvarez by Ko I'M affraid but fair play to Rhodes for going into the Lions den to face him.

I honestly think Ryan stops Alverez. Canelo was hurt by the other Cotto, and Ryan certainly hits a lot harder than he does. This will be the biggest guy Canelo has fought in his career, but Rhodes has fought up at Middle, and has never lost at 154. He is a switching hitting fighter, something i dont think Aleverez has fought against. Yes the atmosphere will be hostel, but if our man can weather the early storm, the crowd just may get impatient, just like the Hatton fight. Caleno responded to this and tried to get his guy out of there, but took some good shots coming in looking for the kill. If he makes this mistake against a 154 puncher, i feel it's game over.

Rhodes TKO 10 while probably behind on the cards
