You mean the Monzon who defended against welterweight Napoles?

You mean the Robinson who defended against welterweight Basilio (and lost)?

Marvin Hagler defended against former welters Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard (and lost to Leonard).

Michael Nunn defended against welters Marlon Starling and Donald Curry.

Bernard Hopkins defended against former welters Simon Brown, Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad.

Jermain Taylor defended against welterweight Cory Spinks.

Sergio Martinez defended against former welterweights Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto (and lost).

When a welterweight moves up and fights for the middleweight title, they lose more times than they win. But they do, on occasion, win.

It's Alvarez's first defense. People are jumping on him like he was the one ducking Golovkin for years - when it was actually Martinez and Cotto.

Alvarez is 25. He's already fought Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, Shane Mosley, Kermit Cintron, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo, Josesito Lopez ... and now Khan.

Most first defenses are pretty non-descript. Canelo-Khan is a big-money event.

    It's fine.

I think a bit if the talk is a bit overblown, the only real complaint is a MW Title being on the line.

Size wise it's only gonna be about 5-10 lb difference fight night which is normal, and it's gaurenteed to be a entertaining fight while it lasts.
Maybe I just wanna see Khan get KOd but I'm interested, people talk about Alvarez like he's been fighting at MW for years and has just been running from fighters?
Dudes been fighting at non title JMW fights 1 whole lb above 154, and won a MW title at the same 155 weight 1 fight ago. A WW fighting basically a JMW is nothing new. Khan while accomplished has done nothing in years and is undeserving, saying that though Canelo vs Thurman,Brook,Porter,Andrade,Charlo's are all interesting fights on the low.

Napoles was champion in the weight below.
Basilio was champion in the weight below.
Duran, Hearns and Leonard had all been champions or title holders in the weight below.
Starling and Curry were champions or title holders in the weight below.
Brown, De La Hoya and Tito were all champions or title holders in the weight below.
Spinks was a title holder in the weight below.
Cotto was a title holder in the weight below.
Williams was a title holder at WW, but was considered the best LMW on the planet and had beaten Martinez previously.

Khan was a title holder at LWW, at 140. 20 pounds south of MW. He's not held a title nor championship above 140. This is a ridiculous mismatch and is totally unlike the examples you gave. Defending against the champion in the lower division is commonplace. Defending against a fringe contender from the lower division is ridiculous. Not unprecedented, but ridiculous none the less.

You're a idiot because canelo is coming off an impressive win over cotto while ggg impressive win was against who again? Canelo has beaten trout, lara, kirkland, Angulo, cotto. Who has ggg beat that was in the same level as lara and cotto?

This fight shouldn't be on ppv but I got no problem with canelo facing khan because canelo deserves a break especially when he was coming off a win over cotto. Canelo will fight Ggg but this is a warm up fight for a showdown vs ggg in the fall.

It looks like Khan has finally talked himself into a big fight. I wonder what Oscar's face will look like if Khan wins.

So Canelo fighting Khan is “a break” from tough fights? Really? This after last year Khan being the guy that pretty much everyone wanted Floyd to fight. A guy they thought would test Floyd in a way that no one else would.

Amir Khan, the guy that Floyd avoided to fight Berto instead which bummed fight fans to tha point that many people wouldn’t even buy the PPV because they though Berto posed no thread to Floyd where Khan did.

Just to recap : What was seen as the toughest fight out there for Floyd just a few months ago before he fought Berto instead, that guy is now seen as “a break” from tough fights for Canelo?

Its not the WBC's fault. If Khan says he can make that weight then who are they to argue? If Khan gets brutality knocked out its his own stupid fault.

Well it’s not really that big of a jump. It’s not like he’s moving up to 160 or something crazy. He jumped up 7 lbs from 140 to 147 not to long ago. Now he’s jumping up 8 lb to 155. He struggled to make 140 and really became a more comfortable fighter at 147. It’s possible that the extra weight could benefit Khan, could even increase his punch resistance.

Yea I agree. Khan obviously thinks he can make that weight easy. Even said its his natural weight.

Will his speed be effected? Possibly slightly. But he will still be miles faster than Canelo.

As you've mentioned I'm just worried about his ability to take absorb a punch.

A sad day for boxing. The big money ****s trying to protect the gravy train. They know if fake Mexican Ginger gets in the ring with GGG, not only will he get KTFO, they realise that the public will see what a fraud he is and that boxing fans have been lied to for the past 15 years. Who has this Ginger fought? Floyd's fight with him - farce. Floyd - farce. Wait a sec. It's all a farce.
