A recent example was Broner, who went from Lightweight directly to Welterweight skipping 140 completely. Broner’s jump was much larger than what Khan is doing. (a 12 lb increase compared to only a 8 lb increase here)

Would you feel better if this fight was at 154-lb for the WBC 154-lb title? In an ideal world that’s what I’d rather see, however given that Canelo holds the MW title and it is unclear what is going to happen with the belts at 154, there is only a 1-lb difference between that and 155 so in terms of weight it’s about the same as far as how far Khan is jumping up.

It’s 8 lbs. He’s not jumping up 2 full weight divisions like you are saying. Here’s a situation where the 155 catchweight actually makes sense and benefits Khan! Unlike countless other catchweights where fighters have been drained, this one is an example of a catchweight making sense and being fair to both fighters.

I get the whole “it’s a MW belt, defend it at 160” but Khan is the biggest fight out there for Canelo right now and this is really the biggest fight in boxing. Whether the fight is at 154 or at 155, either of those target weights are much fairer to Khan than not having a catchweight and having the fight be at 160. So unless this fight were to be at 154 for a vacant 154-lb title, the next best option is what we have. In this particular fight, having it without a catchweight at the MW limit would be very unfair to Khan.

As far as your 1st point is concerned, Dubblechin gave several examples to which I gave him credit as I was previously wrong. However, even though it's happened several times, I still believe it's wrong that a moving up fighter gets a title shot without ever even having established himself in the division below. I know that this stuff drums up a lot of interest, especially in this case, but I personally don't like it. And again, I see your (2nd) point but (again)don't agree with it. Why would it be unfair to Khan if there wasn't a catch weight when it's for the 160 pound title? It's not the catch weight 155 pound title. If the actual 160 pound title weight limit is unfair to Khan, then why should he get a shot for that strap in the 1st place? Because presently, it's the biggest fight in boxing? I'm just personally against catch weights in title fights in general. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree:good

I would expect the new champ to fight the best in the division before looking at midgets. Hagler fought everyone @ MW, then Hearns turns up and he offers him a shot because he is the best possible fight. This is a joke. Yellow Canello is only looking for an easy fight. When he is forced to fight GGG he will drop back to 154. Look at Floyd, conveniently jumped past 140 when an easy shot at 147 was on offer.

The problem is that boxing is only about maximising revenue, not about the best fights. There are at least 10 good fights that could be made but are not because of $$$:
HW: Wilder, Fury, Ortiz, Joshua, Klit
    LHW: Kovalev, Stevenson, Ward
    MW: GGG, Canello
WW: Brook, Khan, Porter, Thurman, Garcia
    FW: Lomychenko, Santa Cruz

When LaMotta beat SRRobinson the weight discrepancy was 16 pounds...and they weighed in on the day of the fight. No catchweight. Robinson was 3-1 favorite as he had previously beaten Jake.

    Just a reference point.

Khan facing Canelo is like GGG going up to fight Kovalev.

Nobody ever talks about GGG fighting Kovalev , because they know its simply never going to happen.

Khan has more ballz than Canelo and GGG put together. You can't like one of these Chumps but not the other. Both are cut from the same cowardly cloth.

Khan has some low hanging sac to take on 178lb Canelo:deal
Khan HAD a nice chin at 140 with Maidana but now....NOPE:-(
He has been rocked at 147 a few good times so to think he can take a solid punch from a guy who killed Kirkland is silly.

I hope Khan lives to cash this check and that the real fans call Canelo and ODLH out on this BS fight:yep

I will still watch the fight and root like h€LL for Khan but one punch will end this fight:dead

all this does is make ggg the undisputed middleweight champion of the world, now that the wbc has traded their middleweight title in for the world 155lb title belt. canelo is the undisputed 155lb champion of the world.

I just want to applaud CST for his thread title for once. "Amarillo" was a stroke of genius.
