Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the hate he gets is ridiculous...Especially when you consider all the LOVE Cotto gets.

I don't understand how Cotto gets overrated, while Canelo gets hated on...I'll explain why I think it's out of Envy or ignorance the hate I see Alvarez receiving on ESB by comparing these two Jr. MW.

So Cotto started his pro career at Welter Weight and then shrunk himself down to Jr.WW after having a succesful and lengthy Amateur career.

Leading up to his world title fight he fought some decent contenders in Maussa and Sosa, even a very close fight with Lovemore N'dou, a fight that proved Cotto to have problems finishing strong.

He won his first Title (the VACANT WBO jr.ww) against Kelso Pinto, a contender, nothing more, maybe less. After his fight with Pinto, he fought hard hitting but nothing special Bailey whose last 6 fights before fighting Cotto was 3/3. Following the Bailey fight he fough shot contender Corley who Cotto outweighed by 17 pounds on fight night and was hurt worse than what Jose Cotto hurt Alvarez.

Then he fought Abdulleav. Torres, Branco, and malignaggi.

That's 7 C and B level fighters at most after he won his vacant WBO title at 140 at the age of 24.

Now a lot of you guys hate on Canelo because at the age of a whopping 21 he holds a title, and won it against M. Hatton a more legit guy than Pinto, and since has fought Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, and Kermit Cintron in his first year with that Title, and theres already talks about him fighting Kirkland, Mosley and he would fight Cotto if they could make the fight.

Cotto fought Bailey, Corley, and Abdulleav in his first year after picking up his first strap.

IMO, Alavarez has taken more chances at his age and his time with a title than Cotto.

    Haters gonna hate.

Cotto doesn't get overrated but Canelo's resume is nice for a 21 year old with no amateur background

yeah, I mean, how can an over protected kid who was handed a title, much like his other counterpart from south of the border, NOT get the same love as a battle tested warrior who has fought the best of the best for the last 5 years?

    Man, makes no sense.

    Bull****. Read the ****ing post.

Cotto fought for the ****ing WBO Jr.WW strap that was VACANT against Kelso ****ing Pinto!

Then he defended it against Bailey, Corley and Abdulleav in his first year as a titlist at the age of 24 and 25....

...While the 21 year old red head won it against Matthew Hatton and defended against Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez and Kermit Cintron.

Canelo's reign is off to a more legit start than Cotto's, and at a younger age.

Wow, what a murderer's row he's faced. Where's the LOVE!?!? Isn't it enough that he has a world title he hasn't earned and got some referee help against the mighty Alphonso Gomez?

Bailey, Corley, Abdulaev, and Pinto is better than Hatton, Rhodes, Gomez, and Cintron.

Because he's and overhyped, unproven punk with no skills with a head stuck up his arse, that's why.

He padded his record by fighting taco vendors, won his title against a gift opponent, the much smaller Hatton, who hadn't fought above 151 lbs since 2002 for a few rounds, and defended against a shot Kermit Cintron that was coming from two losses and a controversial win on points against a nobody Smith.

He also sucker punched jr flyweight Ulises Solis and broke his jaw, because he's a dick like that. That fact nothwithstanding, im aware that Canelo's still young and his career should be managed carefully, the big mistake here was to make him champion so soon.

and just for the record, i think Cotto sucks

wiki says he had 20 amateur bouts

Isal, seriously, you are cool with Canelo winning his 154 strap by fighting Matthew Hatton? Hatton a 147 pounder who went up to 154 for the first time to fight Canelo.

What does Cotto have to do with Canelo? I don't hate Canelo, i just disagree with how they make him a champ but treat him like a prospect who still needs to be developed.

I don't let my Mexican Pride blind me, compadre. Canelo has a good resume and serious potential. They just made him a Champ to soon.

He's hyped up to be the next great thing...It's what good promoters do for their fighters...

He practically had no Amateur career, of course he's going to fight a lot of weaker opponents to help him get refined...What the **** do you expect moron? For him to go pro and be this ****ing Ray Robinson off the bat??!!

And btw, Cotto fought a nobody for his Vacant WBO title.

    :patsch

    So what?

    Oh, I see...You're a *****. :|

    Ok.

I see, you only like the highest Calibre fighters...GTFO if you don't enjoy boxing.

Most succesful pro fighters come into the pro scene with over 100 amateur fights.

I'm not thrilled that he is a titlist, but that's not the point. My point is that he gets so much hate when there's fighters like Cotto who at his age had a similar begining yet get so much props and love or fighters much more protected...

What does Cotto have to do with anything? People seem to compare them, and I'm just making a comparison with the double standard being used against the Mexican fighter.

He was given a title too soon, but so far, he's defended it against better oposition than many titlist.
