What's going on with this isn't new to the sport unfortunately. Cotto was outweighing his opponents by nearly 20 pounds, and his opponents were mostly journeymen. Bernard Hopkins became a household name beating former Jr. WW at MW, him beginning his career at Lt. HW. Manny Pacquiao became a household name beating old washed up fighters. Roy Jones Jr. became a househld name fighting subpar competition in the 90's. The point is what Canelo is doing isn't new, it isn't the best for the fans, but it's nothing to hate about.
I like Alvarez. I wanna see him in with Miguel next. Time for the kid to take some steps up in class. Cotto is ranked #10 in the world right now, and will drop back down to the 1 spot at 154 since Floyd will be inactive. This this would be a great fight. I'll take Miguel by UD though but none the less it's a good fight.
-Cotto beat Kelso Pinto for a Vacant strap. -Cotto's first defense was against Bailey who at the time was 3-3 in his last six fights!!! 3-4 after Cotto got done with him. -Cotto's 2nd defense was against journeyman Corley who was 1-2 in his last three fights, who nearly KTFO Cotto despite Corley not being known for his punch and more importantly, being outweighted by Cotto by 17 pounds!! -Cotto's third defense was against Muhammad Abdullaev, who the **** was and is Muhammad Abdullaev? At WW, Cotto had a good run, but jumping to 154, he hasn't done ****. In fact, he got a title shot against a one legged jew despite losing his last fight, and his fight against Margarito, and then defended his belt against unranked Mayorga and unranked Margarito who was also coming off a loss.
Hopkins and Cotto had the ability ( like junior today) to make the limit weight the day before, it looks bad but it doesn't break any rules. I think pacquiao earned his spot by beating great opposition like Barrera, morales and Hatton but all the catch weight BS I agree is wrong. Roy jones just was miles ahead of anybody else.
you are mentioning and comparing canelo alvarez with the likes of miguel cotto, bernard hopkins, manny pacquiao and roy jones jr.? all first ballot hall-of-famers? you may be an ADMIN but this post makes you an IDIOT.
The fact is many fighters have had their resume blown up by easier comp before stepping up to the big dogs. Canelo is no different. He is 22 years old and has accomplished more than many titlists have.
really? so im a "****ing moron" for questioning a shot mosely, a semi-retired cintron and now a guy that was fighting 140 pound eight-rounders a year and a half ago and just fought his first 147 fight in a brutal war less than three months before and having to again move up another weight class(8 ounce to 10 gloves as well) to be canelos cannon-fodder? expalin to us, Isal, the legitimacy of josesitio lopez and the analogy between cotto, jones jr., manny pacquiao and bernard hopkins. give us one example of any the aforementioned fighters.
i, like most knowledgeable boxing aficioanados that post here, could give a rats ass if hes 22-years-old. HES THE ****ING WBC CHAMPION. wtf do you not understand about that? your an ADMIN here. please set an example and act like one.
First of all why is it that in every ****ing thread you make about any ****ing boxer somehow you find the need to include a PR boxer, I cant understand that. And the reason he fought Kelso was to avenged his lost to Kelso in the Olympics but you wouldnt know anything about that.....
Questions Mr. Boxing guru. -Which Campion did Cotto beat to become the WBO 140 Champ? -After become a 140 titlist, who were his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd title defenses against? -When he fought Journeyman Demarcus Corley, what were their weights on fight night?
Yes I would know moron. And I also know he lost to Muhummad Abdulleav and he fought him in the pros, and he also lost to Bojado in the amateurs as well. Cotto became the 140 Champion fighting for a Vacant ABC strap against a no body.
Figure it out dip ****. Check what time you made your post. Factor in that I don't check every thread I post in every minute of the day, factor in I was replying to another poster before I saw yours, and then look at the time I posted my response to you. In other words, that **** is common knoweldge... You thought you were some kind of insider because you knew what everyone already knew, that Cotto fought Pinto in the ams?? atsch The entire justification of the fight was that it was Cotto's chance to redeem his one of many losses in the ams . Come at me with substance pato. Moron.
