    Good ****ysis from the OP.

He has great timing and accuracy and is one of best defensive and offensive fighters in the pocket. His long range game is not quite on par with his short/mid range game, but it is still good. Using his jab more would help.

For me, his major weekness is his footwork. To slow, flat footed and he doesn't cut the ring off well at all. He has time to improve this and i think it should be his major focus.

He could also do with throwing more shots. He seems very one paced at times and often fights within himself.

As someone else mentioned, he could do with varrying the speed and power of his shots. He doesnt have to be explosive all of the time.

Still, he is a very good fighter, one of the best around today and whilst i wouldn't say that he is trully great, he certainly has the potential and time to become it.

Prime Margarito destroys him. No way Canelo could handle or match his workrate.

I see a glaring weakness with Canelo as it pertains to his conditioning. Similar to how Khan has a glass jaw.

Canelo's good but he's not even really head and shoulders above his JMW rivals. Roughly on a par with Lara, Trout and I would say Andrade and Vanes, maybe the Charlos too. I see a very solid and competent fighter who does a few things well, notably slipping and countering, but is not what I'd call elite or exceptional in any particular aspect of his game.

To be fair, though, he is still young and improving and he has a wealth of experience on the big stage to his credit.

Margarito got his ass whipped everytime he stepped above 147 and got his ass whopped by everytop fighters he's fought outside of cheating Cotto.
Canelo would whip him like Angulo.

HA! You mofo! Cotto hit him with three punches combos in every round and he couldnt block the punches bro, c'mon man. Be real. He won the fight hands down because of the hard punches which is what I am assuming the judges were looking for (and its all good because the fight itself brought the PR vs MEX alive again) but the scores should had been a lot closer than what the judges called. BTW, I was there live and truly enjoyed the weight-in and the fight. The PR vs Mexico boxing rivalry is one for the ages. But to say Canelo put a whipping on Cotto is an over-statement. IMHO, the fight could had gone either way 7-5....Hell, some Mexican TV comentators had it 8-4 for Cotto, even Chavez Sr said it was a lot closer than what it was it called.

I don't think his conditioning is as bad as others make out. His low work rate, for me, is more to do with him over thinking things to much and thus not letting his hands go enough.

When you are fatigued form and technique is the first thing to suffer. Canelo's form and technique are still decent in the championship rounds.

Im glad you think that. If hes brave enough to take on Gennady that will show us just what level of an operator Golovkin is

Let's just not hope Canelo's not lacking the massive cojohnes that the Great Mexicans are renowned for

Viva la raza, Mexican style bb

How long have you watched boxing? There are different styles in this sport and several styles do not consist of high output. Saul is a counter puncher, he has a fine style.

Counterpunching is good and all, but the drawback to that is it's harder to score points when you're output is that low and it's harder to stop people as well.

The lower the output the more precise and perfect you have to be. Some master boxers like Mayweather get away with it because of absurd skill levels.

Which is why I think Canelo's opponents have been handpicked. All of his best opponents have been known for their low output/workrate.

Old Mayweather- not the workrate of his younger years.
Old Cotto- Always had questionable stamina anyways.
    Lara- Low workrate fighter.
Trout- Not much of a workrate either.

Footwork and stamina will be the things that stop him from being an elite lever fighter.

Well said, Canelo is roughly on a level with Lara or Andrade, good fighters all.
