Prime Martinez athleticism and movement would have given Canelo big problems, just like Lara.

Except Maravilla also knows how to throw punches. I dont know that he would have KOed Canelo, but he would have knocked him around most of the fight.

    Tough question.

Martinez gets highly overrated on this forum for his wins over PWilly and Kelly Pavlik.
There is NO DOUBT in my mind that Alvarez would mow them both down, much less draw/lose to either or go 12 for that matter.

However, Sergio himself is another animal. He's got power to keep Canelo honest, while at the same time, footwork as good or better than Lara's forcing Canelo to lunge.

That said......Canelo has far better handspeed than JCCJr, and is just as good a body puncher.

Not saying Jr fought a prime Martinez, but he undoubtedly fought as close to as good a Martinez as there ever was. And if Jr could eventually catch up to Sergio, Canelo would as well.

My pick would be Canelo by late KO, maybe 10-11, behind on the cards something like 9-2. :think

I dont see Canelo mowing Pavlik. Would agree he might well beat Williams.

One difference though between Jr and Canelo, is largely due to size I see Canelo having taken a lot more punishment by those late rounds than Jr. I dont think Canelo packs glass, but Jr was just a tank at 160.

Martinez is way too fast for Canelo. It would be the Mayweather fight again.

    Too much speed!

I think Prime Martinez beats GGG, so him beating Canelo is a a given.

The Floyd and Lara fights showed us that Canelo can't deal with movers.

Canelo can't cut off the ring to save his life.

Bad style match up for stationary Canelo. It could get ugly in there. Sergio wide UD.

He didn't have the Chin:nut:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl He had the chin against Kelly ****ing Pavlik who KO'd Taylor quicker than Abraham and Froch, and a 200lbs Cruiserweight Chavez Jr. who nearly knocked Lee's head off, Sergio had a really good chin when he was fighting Super Middleweight draining themselves down to MW, I'm pretty sure he could take Canelo's power, since Canelo couldn't KO Trout, Floyd, Mosley, Matthew Hatton, Angulo officially, Lara.... get a grip.
