And Mayweather fans. They tend to overrate his opponents for obvious reasons.

Could also be that Benitez gets praised as a god in this kind of matchup out of butthurt disdain for Mayweather.

Mayweather would be a nobody in Benitez' era.

This fight would resemble the Carlos Palomino vs Wilfred Benitez title bout that was fought on Jan 14 1979. Saul Canelo Alvarez would be as aggressive as Palomino was on that day with the exception that this fight would be at 154 lbs. Benitez as in the bout against Palomino would make good use of the ropes, while counterpunching with his burst of speed, dodging punches thrown by Alvarez. Neither fighter scores a knockdown, But Wilfred puts on a boxing clinic, scoring a unanimous decision.

Benitez had the defense but was also significantly naturally bigger and stronger than Mayweather. It would be boring but I would pick him over Floyd at 154 lbs. This was the natural weight that a mature Benitez grew into. Floyd was probably natural 140 lbs.

Mayweather had a longer reach and made a career of fighting men who were bigger than Benitez in the day before era. That argument doesn’t work.

Lara isn't in the same conversation as Benitez.
    Cervantes,Palamino and Duran.
Now tell me Laras best wins?

Lol I thought the classic knew boxing Canelo is at hes very best peak at 168 and he's getting better, I don't see Benitez going all the way up to LHW stopping Kova, Canelo beat his a$$ at 168

If you think Cervantes would beat Lara, you’re clueless.

Benitez started at 140 and peaked at 154. Of course Canelo beats him while weighing 180 in the ring and fighting at super middleweight.
