it's only PPV worthy if the fighters demand PPV money and people are prepared to pay it. The whole 'story' building up over the past few months with these two, would barely justify an old school Fight Night card - it's like two decent chief supports fighting for the right to headline.

Suspect in this case, the fighters have been told there's a huge audience, therefore they're guaranteed £X to do it (and maybe in Clarissa's case she thinks she's fighting at Wembley therefore a "big mainstream event") but there's no other reason it's PPV in its own right.

Fight doesn't sell unless the two of them start visiting BBC and ITV studios in the next month or two.

 

St James Park Newcastle is their goal for this fight - will be incredible if this happens there and sells out.

It's true that you can sell almost anything if you hype it and market it in the right way, but that of course isn't necessarily a sign of quality. But no way is Marshall vs Shields a PPV fight and I think even Sky will struggle to sell that one in any significant numbers. Just look at the total lack of interest in last nights card, hardly the prelude for an upcoming 'mega fight' on PPV.

 

If Earn was still on Sky, he would sell this no problem at all.

The Sky Sports hype machine will be in full flow but Ben Shalom is no Earn.

 

Watching them both post fight in the ring, one was flustered and mouthy with a screwed up expression upon her face whilst the other was calm, almost wanting to laugh out loud.

But then again it comes back to cash: the women's team is paid a lot less therefore the tickets can be priced well - there's no reason Marshall couldn't fill St James's Park at £10-20 per head with a bit of cooperation from the football club - Uncle Frank is attempting something similar with Derby and Zach Parker by promising some of the gate to the club's rescue fund, no wonder it's selling.

Had this debate on here before, but the legacy of Matchroom in the UK is totally inflating the expectations of British-level talent. The money generated gets them into world contention by offering paydays and so the cycle goes on.

It's absolutely the Eubank playbook from the mid-90s: in that case he went on tour with Sky's money fighting sub-par contenders, rather than risk a one-off HBO payout to fight someone decent; it only came unstuck with Steve Collins but both of them did well out of the two fights. All parties did well out of it and Eubank's personality suited Sky at the time they had loveable rogues like Hamed.

Eubank's travels meant that Hamed and Hatton - fuelled by the Loaded/FHM generation hyping them up - wanted more and eventually only PPV could deliver it.
