it seems you have given a lot to the community over the years. You need to tell your story to all the people in the area you served. Ask in a nice way for donations to help save the gym so you can continue offering a low cost product. Ask for 10$, 20$ donations and all 20$ will get a free group class to learn the sweet science and get in shape.

You will surprised to the amount of people who will support you especially with the economy and the little guys getting devoured. Make it in a way so the community feels like they are making a difference like you have.

Have the fighters get donations and get flyers going door to door, car to car.

Yeah, now all Slacker has to do is get back into training to make one last go at a title that everyone told him he is too old to ever get.

He continues to believe in himself and doesn't listen to the naysayers and eventually wins a belt, using the proceeds he earns along to the to not only keep the gym open, but to buy snazzy new equipment, AND marry the awkward, but strangely attractive female that was the only other person to believe in his dream besides him.

The journey isn't easy and Slacker takes a few bumps and bruises (Literally!) along the way and also provides a lot of laughs and a few tear jerking moments. Come See "Lucky Punch" at your local theater today....Let's just say it's a.....KNOCK OUT?

you need to get to know people who love boxing and that helps you build good rapport with boxing communities and the MMA community. Like others have said, you have to have boxing as well as MMA classes since that is the future also. Good luck.

Man it looks like a cool gym and its great it has some history. Make some tees with the shamrock boxing gym est. 19?? and get the community involved on some fundraisers. I agree the MMA connection would be very helpful and many people arent looking to be pros, but lose weight, be in shape, or some self defense. Goodluck.

If you had read the entire thread before posting your worthless comment, you would know that I am not the gym owner.

Its the gym I work out at, owned by my trainer, where I am an assistant coach.

This whole thread is about things we've been doing to try to save the place because its a charity (which means it relies on donations).

    :patsch

Second, the gym owned the building outright for years, but due to no income..was being forced to close 5 years ago. To try to keep the place open and in hopes something would work out...the gym sold the building with a clause that we could stay rent free for five years.

The day the lease was up, the new owner changed the locks, tore the signs down and I hear is opening an MMA gym...not a charity...in our old building.

Thanks for your worthless participation in this thread. Please go back to whatever you were doing before.

    :thumbsup

I'd advise offering a white collar boxing and boxercise classes to the middle classes that you've mentioned. The classes can be a great money spinner and would attract people who may be intimindated by boxing. Check out this site - http://www.whitecollarboxing.ie/.

It's an Irish site but the same principle applies.

You could also consider running a white collar event at the end of it. It's very popular in Ireland for two local Gaelic Football teams to do boxing training for 12 weeks and fight each other at the end of the training on a special event. It can be a good fund raising event and a great night of boxing too as the rivalry is very intense and people try to tear the heads of each other and the relaxed atmosphere usually gets outsiders interested too.

I'm sure you could apply the same principle in the States to having 2 local baseball teams train and fight each other with 18oz glove at a special event, or else the employees of 2 local companies, major employers or the fire department against the cops. Best of luck - I hope it works out well for you.

Also, have any of these former pro's that went big time offered any assistance..? Financial or otherwise?
