This could be several people such as Teddy Brenner or Johnny Addie.

If you want to go back some to the old MSG, Damon Runyon or even Mike Jacobs.

Bet, between '45 'n the close, I could give anyone a run for his money at the ol' Garden.

Budd Schulberg, Paul Gallico, Damon Runyon and AJ Liebling all covered the fights at MSG for years.

Is "clockwork" a clue, bb? Is it a timekeeper?

Again, I don't think anyone really knows the answer to this one for sure. Sam Taub and Jimmy Cannon are some others that come to mind. Really the answer would have to be someone who worked at the Garden for 50 years or more

george bannon it is jg..george bannon was the official timekeeper at the second MSG from about 1900 to the early 1950s...Over 50 years he was
working at MSG 2 and MSG 3 working the prelims and main events...i remember so vividly the announcer at the Garden in the 1940s,saying
to the crowd," counting for the knockdowns, George Bannon " etc..
He was timekeeper from the time of terry mcGovern to willie Pep..
the announcers of the 1940s at MSG was Harry Balogh and later on the
ringing voice of johnnie Addie..Stay well...b.b.
