Saw Wilder in the Luxor casino last November and nobody knew who he was

    The other Wilder thread reminded me of this event.

    I was in Vegas for the Ward-Kovalev fight and was standing in the Luxor casino with 3 other buddies. I look around and see Deontay Wilder and 3-5 of his crew walking with him. Wilder was walking off to the restrooms whilst his crew waited outside.

    I turned to my buddies and said "holy **** that's Deontay Wilder". Their first response was "who?", which is fair enough as they aren't huge boxing fans, but scarily nobody else seemed to know who he was either.

    This was the WBC Heavyweight champion walking through a Vegas casino on fight weekend and absolutely nobody stopped him or even knew who he was.

    We walked roughly behind him on our way out into Excalibur (around a 5 minute walk) and no randoms stopped him. None.

    Can you imagine being in Vegas in the 90s and Tyson walking through a casino? Dude would get mobbed.

    This is how irrelevant Wilder is and he's got himself to blame.

    Well Wilder ain't no Dustin Nichols. If The Worm was in the Casino he would've got mobbed.

    Deontay Wilder is America's only heavyweight champion but the sad thing is he was live streaming on Instagram and he only had 600 people watching. Eddie Hearn was live streaming at the same time and he had over 2000.. Lol he's just a promoter and yet he has more fans.

    To be fair, UFC is popular as ****, but if I saw their middleweight champion at target, I wouldn't bat an eye because I have no idea who he is.

    He should have yelled "BUUUUUUUUUUUM SQUAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!!" in peoples faces. Maybe then some would have recognized him.

    Not a comparable example.

    America's WBC Heavyweight champion would traditionally be a household name anywhere in the country or even world, let alone on fight weekend in Vegas.

    In the households of Mexican immigrants perhaps, but nowhere else.

    Mayweather is the only household name, and he's arguably no longer a modern boxer.

    The US doesn't following boxing. No one here knows any boxers aside from Mayweather and Pacquiao. This isn't something specific to Wilder.
