say khan beats paulie malignaggi convincingly, whether by wide UD, a tko stoppage or even a ko, will that result make you respect khan more? Will he deserve a lot of credit for it? or is paulie crap? shot? not got a chance in beating khan anyway? just trying to see the general opinion before the fight, and will probably compare it to the comments after the fight
Full respect if he wins convincingly and he would have to be considered an elite JWW. Next fight would be against Alexander or Bradley, maybe even Maidana but who knows what's going on with that guy.
Paulie is a decent fighter but tailor made for Khan, Khan is not fighting a bum but his opponent is not much danger to him, he holds all the advantages in every area except experience and chin, which they know Paulie is not a big enough puncher to test, which again makes people look at this as a cherry pick.
You've got to respect Khans undeniable talent but that's where my respect for him ends. I think he beats Paulie inside the distance comprehensively but he's got to be looking to face better quality opposition before he starts collecting the plaudits he seems to hand out to himself.
Its an excellent win as long as Khan pulls it off. as Irelandsthebest says Khan holds all the aces its dream fight for Goldenboy. Khan has a legit chance to look true world class and not much too loose even if Paulie makes it difficult for him then they can just say Paulie is ex world champ and has beaten some decent fighters like Diaz and only lost to 2 top fighters in Hatton and Cotto etc if Khan wins he's just stating to fulfill some potential fights against Maidana Bradley and Holt would tell us more As for Paulie hes far from crap he just doesnt have enuff weapons. More power or a higher punch out put with his right hand and he could be a true nightmare as it is hes a light punching mover with a decent defense (based on the Diaz fight where it looked improved) and chin
This. Paulie is a decent fighter but cherry picked and tailor made for Khan. Khan needs to beat some decent punchers to gain respect.
He knocks out or gets a TKO win over Malignaggi...it would be a very impressive win and make a big statement. Everyone will then be calling for him to face Bradley, Alexander, Maidana, etc, and rightly so. I personally don't think he's ready for any of them...and I'm pretty sure Roach will think the same.
The problem is that Khan will never be ready to take on these guys because of his chin. He cant take a solid shot and that will never change. If he's a champion he needs to step up and fight the best, not take the path of least resistance.
Nah..I've seen boxers before with supposedly "weak" chins go on and have very successful careers at World Level. If they can't hit you on your chin flush or clean...they can't exploit that weakness can they. But I still don't think he is going to be ready for them for at least a year. He has literally fought nobody at world level...Malignaggi is a BIG step up in class for him.
I'll make that determination based upon what version of Paulie shows up. If he's motivated he will make it difficult for anyone, if he doesn't he will get run over. I've only seen Khan fight once on the Calzaghe Manfredo undercard so I'm looking forward to this.
From a british point of view i really get sick of hearing about Kahn. He is a fantastic talent and a lot of fun to watch, great speed, quiet a bit of power and is always likely to get knocked out himself, making him an edge of your seat fighter. But i think Paulie was the easy way out for him and a the best cherry pick this year. He choose to fight a feather fisted, albeit class act, Paulie, rather than his mandatory in Maidana who incidentally is a big puncher. He out-speeds, out-punches and out-works Paulie every night of the week in my view. While it is a good name to have on his resume, its far from a risk IMO. I dont think he will get respect until he goes in there and outboxes a top puncher at the weight. I was gunning for him to take on Maidana, and I would have gotten behind him for that 1 as he would have been brave to take the fight. But now I hope he gets what he deserves for taking the seemingly ‘easier option’
I used to say the same thing about Maidana...and it is true that he has very limited skill and relies heavily on his punching power. But this guy is in your face for 12 rounds, if you can't hurt him...theres a chance you are in trouble. He can be outboxed though if you can create the time. 'Khan is the most naturally talented guy at 140'...? You think, I would completely disagree...thats why Roach has been working really hard to try to get him to fight in a certain way.
