It makes no sense to me keeping a man like Pretty Boy at number one, when for the past 4 years, everybody below him have been fighting and beating better fighters.
Agreed. I also give preference to fighters who fight the best. Pharoah and TFFP have good points as well in seeing how the fight plays out.
Taylor defeated Hopkins twice, who was a p4p fighter when Taylor defeated him. Taylor when drew with Winky, who was also a p4p fighter at the time. It's all common sense. You have to rank a guy lower if he loses, and Taylor did twice, so it'd be ridiclious to have him in the top 10.
Like I posted earlier, I've never made a P4P list, it's all just opinion as far as I can tell. But I'm pretty sure Taylor was at most peoples about 8 going into the first fight.
Cotto is another wild card. Would you keep Mayweather in the #1 position if he didn't fight Cotto in his next two fights?
He had to be. He was undefeated, and had just defeated Hopkins who had been Middleweight king for almost a decade. Taylor was most surely in the top 10 at the time of the first fight, and anybody claiming otherwise, I disagree with.
Yeah, I know he was top 10, just can't remember exactly where everybody had him. Pretty sure atleast average of 8 is safe to say.:yep
Depends what other fighters do. If one of the following happens, I wouldn't move Pavlik up to number one. - If Pacquiao wins a title at lightweight other than the WBC - If Mayweather defeats Cotto - If Cotto defeats Mayweather If none of these scenarios occur, then Pavlik would have a damn good case. Even more so if he unified all 4 title belts at middleweight after. Then I'd put him at number one.
Yes, but you're saying he lost so you rank him lower, not that he got worse. Jermaine Taylor is 29, has had a reasonably light career thus far, I see no reason from that or evidence of my eyes to say that he's declining. If a guy isn't declining, but you're moving him down the rankings, all that indicates is that your initial ranking was wrong. You're just moving him back to where I accurately ranked him all along.
I don't actually rate Pavlik that great on his ability, but if the man is beating great fighters such as (Miranda, Taylor, Calzaghe), then I'd little choice to put him #1. You can look great against Ricky Hatton, but if you win against Calzaghe, I know which is more impressive from my point of view.
