I think he cleans out 160 (a lot of people are strongly against this statement). And despite me picking a few over him at 168, there's no question as to who I'd be rooting for.
I never had him as high as four that recently, he definately has declined from his peak. The main thing that has happened recently is that he hasn't been in the ring - one fight in the past year and a half. I don't draw any conclusions from the Hopkins fight itself due to being ridiculously far away from an optimum weight division, but he drops down the order through sheer inactivity. The Taylor fight was close enough that I'd have to rank them fairly close, but I'm quite tempted at this point to consider him retired until he actually proves otherwise (calling out the likes of De La Hoya and Mayweather in the press not really counting as proof).
So, if I love watching him, would root for him against pretty much all (non-British) opposition, want to see him in big fights and think that his achievements so far make him one of the top 15 pound for pound fighters in the whole world (but not as high as the top 5, 6 or 7 that some may suggest), does that make me a hater or a fanboy?
No, Floyd is #1 until he loses. Pac is my #2 until he loses. Floyds resume is better than Calzaghe anyway
Well I will go ahead and say I think this mentality is ridiculous. Take the best competition, or go home.
There's a strong correlation between the best fights and the biggest money fights. Personally, I wouldn't drop Mayweather from the no.1 spot unless he lost or unless someone else blows me away with their talent and level of opposition. Now if other people want to drop Mayweather from the top spot because he doesn't fight Cotto exactly when they want him too, that's fine. The fight will happen, and when he wins people will have to find a new way to discredit him.
Not strong enough obviously. Some boxers just sell, for whatever reason, and two of the ones who sell the most no matter what they do happen to be around his division unfortunately. I'm getting out ahead on this one already. I have several threads lined up... You say that, but Hatton and De La Hoya were both top 20 fighters in the world when Floyd fought them and both will probably wind up in the Hall of Fame. That's a pretty high standard when you beat two future HOF'ers who are also two of the best fighters in the world, and still get criticised for not taking on tough enough comp. Cotto and Mosley are the only two fighters at WW(besides Floyd) that you can say are better than De La Hoya(and Floyd tried to fight Mosley before his fight with Hoya). Now Floyd went up in weight and beat Hoya at a weight class at which he never fought. He then followed that up by beating a prime, top 10, undefeated fighter. And if I remember correctly, you picked Hatton to beat Mayweather. You joke, but threads like these probably would pop up. People love to hate Floyd. When you're on top like he is and are as arrogant as he is, people will always look to descrdit you.
