He's fat, unmotivated, unskilled, blah, blah..........But, a few well televised, impressive KOs against cans, and he's re-annoited the savior of the heavyweight division. Sorry, but no IQ required to be a boxing fan....:deal
I was never and i mean never impressed by this fat lazy African.. He started getting hyped after knocking out Jeremy WIlliams with a single left hook but I knew that meant nothing.. Fans were just so desperate for the next big thing so they pushed this fatso but i knew all along that he was nothing.
I hate to admit it but, gosh darn it. You are right. Heck, there still are/were people out there who believe every single fight that James Toney will finally lose weight. But I will never EVER like Sam Peter. I always thought he was a rubbish fighter and barring a miracle I will continue to think so.
Likewise. And there will always be people who cling to the hopefuls. I mean James Toney is a different story. He's established dominance before, has a large fanbase and has the trash talking style that some flock to. Some people won't let nostalgia go.
Same damn **** happened with Tyson when he first stared off and he did alright. Not the fans fault that Peter never really progresssed as a fighter. The guy had all the obvious physical talent, but was never motivated enough or trained up well enough to groom himself as a real champion.
I don't think Peter is ever going to be hailed as a saviour again. However, the weak state of the division means that he's not going to disappear. If guys like Maskaev and Rahman can linger for many years, and still end up getting title shots, there is no reason Peter can't remain a factor.
