Just noticed SBS 1 are showing Hot Docs " Thriller in Manilla " tonight at 10.05 pm. Doesn't mention repeat . The blurb says it looks at the bad blood between Ali & Frazier leading up to the classic fight.Should be worth a look. Don't forget Johnny Lewis Classics One HD 9pm. Not sure which bout they are showing.
Don't tell me I've cocked another one up already ? I was looking at a Queensland programme maybe that will get me off the hook. atsch
i Bought The Thrilla In Manilla Doco on DVD and Big W a few weeks back. i Highly Recommend everyone watch this tonight. its very well made.
Hate to say it, but the likelyhood of Joe seeing another xmas is extremely unlikely from reports. He's said to be fading very, very rapidly. Very frail and confined to a wheelchair is strongly suggested through a good source. Will leave it at that.
Some of the Johnny -Come-Latelies around here with not a clue on heavyweight history ought to tune in tonight. If it's the 'Thriller in Manila' most of us have seen before they might actually learn something!
is that the 1 where frazier says to ali' hey man if i ever said anything to offend u , im sorry.. along those lines?
How good was Ferdie Pacheco!! I love when he nails the journo - "Do you know anything about boxing or do you cover the stockmarket".
Ferdie says what's on his mind for sure. "...Joe Frazier WAS dumb" A bit much.. considering Ferdie was hell bent on Ali fighting on... and on.. and on.
i didnt know ali was such a dead ****. frazier had been his staunch ally, lent him money, helped him get his boxing licence back, defended his stance on vietnam......then when ali gets his boxing licence back, labels joe the worst insult you can say to an american black man..."uncle tom..". not only that, he called him a 'gorrilla', another bad insult. ali made it personal, purposely slandered joe to make himself look a better black man, when in reality it was joe that had lived the cliched 'poor, black, hardworking' life. ali teased all his opponents, but none more savagely, and personally than he did to frazier. a man whom he owed some loyalty... ali was never man enough to apologise man to man. so in my book, ali is a ****, was a ****, and will always remain a ****. frasier has a point when he makes the observation about the irony of god taking away alis ability to speak, considering how he used his big mouth for bad purposes when he was young. at the end it was stated that ali slandered frazier to promote the fight. that is total bull****. ali was and is a dead ****.
It goes to show how powerful hype is. The boxing community is the only one that cares about Joe Fraziers side of the story and the way Ali personally used him and trashed him in a way he didn't deserve. For the rest of the community Ali is untouchable evidenced by him winning Time Magazine man of the Century.
Fair points made. I must admit, it took me by surprise a little as to the extent to which Ali shat back on Joe. **** poor to be frank. :bart Shame to see Joe living in, putting it politely - squalor. Great doco, it actually made me flick over from Sugar Shane on 1HD and I loved it. Great job to whoever produced it! :good
