Schaefer explains reason for Peterson/Matthysse catch weight

    "It's really interesting. Both fighters wanted to fight for both belts, so there was no issue there. The IBF said that they do not recognize unification bouts with interim-belts. Then the approach was for Lamont to only defend his belt, or for Matthysse to only defend his belt - that was one possibility. Or have the IBF rule that they can fight for both belts and then the winner would have to decide within a week which belt he will keep. All of that was not acceptable. So we really had a choice of not doing the fight because of that or to do the fight and make it a non-title fight,"

    So basically, he blames the IBF. If he's to believed here, someone would've had to vacate or they had to do it at as a non title fight. I'd like to hear a statement from the IBF on this.

    -no Schaefer you have to blame PEDerson
    -people wont watch the fight now since belts are not on the line the fight now sucks

    I kinda get where they're coming from. IBF doesn't want to unify with an interim belt. I think they should go ahead and do it anyways since the winner will be fighting for the real WBC belt next.

    Who cares about the belts they are meaningless it's about the fighters status increasing with the victory.

    no most people were blaming Peterson. The source I heard from talked directly to the IBF and said Matthysse didn't want to wager his title which is in fact true, but telling only half the story.

    I don't understand why Lucas wants to hold on to a interim title, when he could simply just fight and get the belt from Lamont.
