Pacquiao can also get away with Tim Bradley due to the fact he is not seen as a natural Welterweight, same way he got away with Marquez. Mayweather is expected to go up to If Martinez really wanted fights with Mayweather, Pacuqiao....infact if he wanted big fights with Cotto, Alvaerez, Angulo, Kirkland etc etc he should have stayed at 154lbs. Staying at 160lbs never made sense to me.
He is also the best 154 fighter when he chooses to fight there. Martinez is not a fully fledged Middleweight!
No, because Bradley is seen as a natural Welter, he's fought there before and, whilst short, it's clear to see he cuts to make 140, just as Pac' would have to. They are the same size. Guerrero would lose any advantages he has moving two weights north to fight a man the same size/bigger than him. Bradley wouldn't. As for Martinez, he is making money and seen as the man at 160. If someone is confident enough to challenge him, move up, if Floyd isn't then fair enough, I'm not expecting him to fight Sergio, I just don't find it completely unreasonable, and I don't in terms of Pacqiuao fighting him either, I actually called for Pac' to fight Pavlik when Kelly had all the belts and remain confident he would've beaten him well.
I no he is tied up (with Macklin not barker), but the fight was only announced this week. Floyd named his date in what, November? That is ample time to make the fight
Don't worry, whilst Rob thinks everyone makes different rules for Pacman he makes it up as he goes along for Floyd.
I think the reasoning behind getting away with the Marquez fight is different to why Bradley would be acceptable, though your point is generally correct. Martinez from memory took Williams on short notice the first time at 160 when Williams/Pavlik fell through, then got the shot at Pavlik and won. Usually being the real middleweight champion would bring plenty of opportunities and lots of cash, but it's never really turned out that way. A couple of HBO hypejobs (like Jacobs) have been sparked, and many of the contenders like Golovkin are being put in with bus drivers for the immediate future. Martinez is in a dilemma, being the top dog at 160 normally entitles you to being the A-side in a fight, at 154 against the likes of Cotto he'd be the B-side. I think he's only willing to play that role against Floyd. Like Flea says, I'd expect Floyd to win a relatively clear decision in such a fight, weight isn't everything in such a matchup. If he lost, he'd be losing for the middleweight championship, not to a scrub like Ortiz for the WW crown. It's high risk high reward, obviously Martinez is better than Ruiz but the same scenario applies here.
Especially considering Martinez's style, if it was Bennie Briscoe obviously I'd be more tentative. It ain't, it's Martinez and he'll play right into Floyd's game. Floyd just isn't that breed of fighter, going by the evidence we have.
I agree, but what makes the fight interesting(considering most us think Floyd wins handily) is Martinez's natural size and power, and now we realise size doesn't mean that much(at least in this match up) when weighed up with style, we only want to see the fight(above others who might stylistically give him more problems?) on the off chance Sergio cracks one on Floyd's chin! Probably the best fight out there though I agree, and one to garner the most acclaim inside the fight game, rather than to mainstream audience, so I suppose he would get even more respect.
I'm not certain with your original post though. I would like to see Floyd fight Sergio so Floyd can really do something! Not because I think there's the off-chance he could get 'battered' (not many in this era would do that to him) but because we'll actually see him fight his best. Ortiz was a dreadful opponent, and all things considered, a poor performance. Alvarez won't test him, and nor will Guerrero. Why waste mine, yours and Floyd's time? Of course, Mayweather doesn't care he's guaranteed $$$'s either way and doesn't give a ****
