**** knows who he'll fight now then, Pacquiao's team dont seem to want it for early May, Guerrero a no go, the Berto - Ortiz winner wont be fighting again that quick, Khan I'm assuming will be fighting Peterson, Bradley is with Top Rank so no, Martinez has another fight. Guess it leaves Cotto if his contract situation means he's a free man. Would Alvarez be risked?

Or is he going to do something stupid like Morales?!

When it comes to catch weights the fighter coming down in weight has the advantage in my opinion, due to the weigh ins being 30 hours before the fight.

If Mayweather said he would fight Martinez but the max weight on fightnight of 155lbs how would you feel about it? Martinez would not accept it but it would be fair.

If Mayweather was to say I am a Welterweight, I will fight at 151lbs if an extremly good fight comes to the table where I can make a significant amount of more money than I already do I will fight there but Martinez can't make that and he doesn't bring a higher payday than severall other fighters.

I am not a fan of catch weight either.

What on earth are you talking about? It's ok for Floyd to bring Marquez up 2 weight classes, but not ok for Floyd to fight at 154 (which he has done before), against Martinez. ****, like someone else said, Martinez was willing to drop down to just over the LMW limit to put his MW title on the line.

Alvarez is bigger than Martinez is he not?

I'm not saying Mayweather has to fight outside his weight class because he clearly doesn't. But don't pretend he is fighting the best possible opponent at 154 because he isn't.

True. If he really wanted to, Floyd could have secured Martinez the moment he knew a decent opponent wasn't available (which was way back before Christmas).

Alvarez is at least the same size as Sergio IMO.

Why isn't it fair? You keep saying it but I dot see your point. If he wants to fight in the 154 lb weight class, what is 2 ounces going to realistically do? Particularly after saying Sergio will weight UNDER what Ortiz did?

And the thing is, Floyd beats Martinez handily*

  11. I think in catchweight contests the man moving up has the advantage.

I'd wager that in the last decade more men moving up have won than lost.

I think what Jonsey's trying to say, is that when you're clearly going out of your comfort zone to fight a guy who's two weight divisions bigger (and close to 20 pounds heavier), you can be slightly forgiven for cherry-picking your opponent. I'm a big critic of Floyd, but I honestly don't have that much of a problem with him picking Canelo over Sergio.
