There is historical precedence for this: many 'great' fighters have given up weight to better fighters than Ortiz, and won.

Maybe Floyd should start cutting again? Gamboa at a 131lb catchweight?

  2. Floyd himself has given up weight to better fighters than Ortiz and won.

    Several of them actually.

Yeah, I suppose Floyd's self-proclaimed greatness doesn't help his cause.

    I 100% get that.

But Rob said Canelo was 'the best opponent' not with Top Rank which isn't the case.

I don't particularly mind the fight myself, even of I think Floyd outclasses him, as I think he'd outclass Martinez as well (who is a little overrated IMO).*

What pisses me off is that Floyd is taking an easier option when he could get so much more credit fighting Martinez (and really add to his legacy).

If they are serious with these concessions and would have it written in that Sergio won't rehydrate above 165....then Floyd should jump at that middleweight strap.

You can be slightly forgiven. You also can't earn the same kudos as those who did take on bigger guys that weren't cherry picked.

My biggest problem is NOT with Floyd: it's with those who think he's one of the greatest fighters of all time. No skin off my back if he fights Nishioka next and outweighs him by two stone, just dont think he's deserving of the plaudits he gets.

Rob how about Duran starting his career at feather and going up to middle to fight Hagler? Fighting Hearns at LMW?

Robinson weighing in under the MW limit for a LHW title fight? And this was with same day weigh ins. Fighting a 160lbs LaMotta whilst coming in in the 140s.

Floyd and his fans claims he's as great or greater than all these fighters so why can't he fight at MW or LMW?

    Totally agree.

  10. Duran must have been short of options when he signed to fight Hearns. Or skint.

He was never winning in a million years :deal

Even the Golden Girl himself fought Hopkins at 160.... started at 130.

Alvarez fights at 154 and Martinez at 160 so SM is the bigger man.

What about Joe Walcott, a Welter, battering 170lb Joe Choynski? Harold Johnson, Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore defeating top Heavyweights?

Billy Conn gets massive respect just for giving Louis hassle, despite getting starched :deal

Of course, all the footage is in black and White so insignificant :-(

same day weigh ins would suit Mayweather more than any other fighter in world boxing.

If Duran brought 95% of the money to the table would he have gone up? If Duran didn't eat like **** when he wasn't training he would have stayed at the lower weights.

Unfortunately Lord Ishy, Floyd's fans often believe it when he says he is the greatest ever which is nonsensical!

And the thing is Rico, Floyd would have probably beaten most of those bigger challenges. That's what annoys me so much m8, it is very much a case of wasted talent which is unfortunate.

  15. Duran probably would have.

It's not the best example to use.

He got 50% of the purse for Hearns, when it was basically a suicide mission.
