Schaefer tells Khan he needs to improve his defence

    Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has urged Amir Khan to take a leaf out of Floyd Mayweather's book.

    Khan had been calling out Mayweather before his December defeat to Lamont Peterson and Schaefer said the Briton needs to shore up his defence if he is to win the re-match on May 19.

    Khan seems bent on proving his chin after he was knocked cold by Breidis Prescott earlier in his career, going to war with Marcos Maidana and then getting draw into a battle with Peterson.

    But Schaefer believes the 25-year-old should play to his strengths and rely on his skills.

    "I don't know how to say it more elegantly, but sometimes Amir's balls are too big for his own good," he said.

    "Look at Mayweather - he's a master tactician who knows how to use defensive and offensive skills and has been knocking people out recently.

    "He knows what it takes to win and fights very smart.

    "Amir has the skills, speed and power, but what he needs to work on are the 'ring smarts' and not get carried away.

    "He's still very young and he learnt a lot from the Peterson fight. We'll see if he applies that on May 19." SKY SPORTS

    Valid points.

    Khan needs to work on his inside game. But also needs to learn to work a round better.

    If Golden Boy's CEO says it, he must take note, he must see he needs to make massive improvements in many departments

    i like khans style, makes him exciting, if he wanted to be a defensive guy i think he would have got with manny steward. he is good with tall guys.

    mayweather - all the trash talk and buildup is p4p one of the most boring fighters right now aswell.

    Without 24/7 or the Internet, Mayweather would not be the highest paid fighter on the planet. Half of the ******s who follow him on twitter or buy his fights, are not really fans of boxing and deep down know he is a boring fighter.

    With the share lack of cross over stars in boxing, Mayweather has kind of took advantage of this market. Nobody outside of America, really knew who he was until he fought Ricky Hatton..?

    I always remember sitting on a bus, and somebody saying behind me

    "Is this fella good who Hatton is facing..?"

    "Whoever was sitting next to this guy replied.

    "He is undefeated, but Hatton is also undefeated and has had more fights"

    All will be watching if Khan makes adjustments in the return, we already know Peterson cant box Khan in the middle of the ring so he will come with his same pressure style and its up to Khan to adjust.

    Lots is riding on this fight for Khan, saying that for Peterson too.
