The most successful (relevant) MMA fighter with a good amateur boxing background is Sergei Kharitonov. He qualified for the 2004 Olympics but instead competed in the PRIDE 2004 HW GP. Here he is fighting Robert Helenius in 2007. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=431Y5aiz8TE[/ame] His most recent fight was a K-1 kickboxing rules match against mighty mo This content is protected He also just knocked out Andrei Arlovski and will be competing against Josh Barnett in SF HW GP semi's. He also fought in the World Series of Boxing for Baku Fires this year, to stay sharp for MMA.
He is being big-time overlooked in the SF tournament, his tough TD defence will make him a big challenge for Barnett and his boxing will get him a decision over Bigfoot imo
I really hope he wins it, he brings violence to the ring/cage everytime... Barnett is a very tough test though
Barnett is more of a TD threat than Werdum but at the same time, we have not really seen Barnett against good opposition in a while. Similar can be said for Kharitonov but should be a very interesting matchup, only 10 days away!
No, it's not. He still doesn't have any semblance of a guard, he still leaves his hands down when punching, still has almost zero head movement, and he still has the footwork of a eighty year-old man. Add in the fact that he's slower than **** now and can't take a punch and you have a recipe for disaster in K-1. You're easily the stupidest person on here, I mean stupid to the point of making beekeeper and scurlarcuntings look like fight analyzing savants, if you actually think that Minotauro would do anything but get decapitated in K-1. And Mirko's 40 amateur fights were about twenty years in the past and his prime was about five years in the past when Dos Santos was beating him up.
Theres no site to confim any record of amatuer fights. Melanie leys goes back a few years thats about it.
I also heard this about tito jones........a natinal golden gloves winner. Guy doesnt even have a jab in his arsenal.
