I think Schmeling would ko Johansson by beating him to the punch, right downt the middle. It would be entertaining to watch, as I think Johansson's heavy hands would have a bullying looking effect against Schmeling. Max by ko around 10.
yeah, thats the main link between the two. Two great rights. I would not rule out an Ingo win. The other key between the two is a certain amount of dedication that Schmeling had that Ingo could be accused of not having. Maybe its a bias developed from the Patterson trilogy, but Schmeling seems to be the more consistant, mentally sound of the two. Which is a strange thing to say when you consider that only Lennox Lewis, Gene Tunney and Johansson are the only three heavyweights that join Marciano as being the only guys to ever beat everyone they stepped in the ring against. But you could almost say the same thing of Schmeling as well.
Good matchup.I lean towards Max,,a bit more durable I feel, though both could hit the floor,Schmeling ko s Ingo in 7.
Schmeling took Joe Louis' best in the first fight (Joe broke his rib in the 2nd fight which lead to a quick k.o.) Probably both go down sometime until Ingo runs out of gas in round 7 and is stopped via TKO. Victory for Max.
I think Schmeling was the better boxer, but Johansson the harder hitter. Neither man had a great chin, though I'd say Schmeling has the edge in that department. Johansson was the naturally bigger man, but the difference is fairly negligible in this instance. The two even had fairly similar styles, both tending to fight conservatively for much of a match, pawing and measuring with the jab and looking for openings to shoot in the right hand, which was each man's money punch. I think this is a pretty even money match. If you put a gun to my head and made me pick, I think I would choose Schmeling, mainly because I feel more confident in his ability at the highest level as a result of his win over Louis.
I just watched the max baer vs Schemling fight, and damn he took a fearful beating of maxie boy,id say though he would win againt johansson, but id say both men would be hurt first, maybe even dropped, would be a hell of a bout
I think Schmeling would win. Whoever wins does so by stoppage though. Both men had terrific power in the right hand , especially Johannsen. Johannsen would try and wait for an opening for his right , but doing so against Schmeling would be a totally different proposition than against Patterson. Schmeling was so clever at analysing his opponents. Johannsen would have to be a bit more aggressive , land a big punch and than be all over Max. But I think at some point Schmeling would tome a right properly and stop Johannsen.
Johansen may have possesed a bit more power than Schmeling, but Max was the craftier of the two. Schmeling would stay on Ingo the whole fight slowely wearing him down as time past, and cutting him up in the meantime. My guess is Schmeling wins by late stoppage, but would take some lumps along the way.
