Many Lineal champions in the LHW division were never defeated at LHW and just gave up their title. This Lineal bull**** doesn't work all the time especially when fighters drop their titles to do other things and are never defeated. In the LHW division this is especially true. The same title that meant something when Spinks was at Light Heavy doesn't anymore -- the best fighter becomes seen as the champ. This happens all the time at weights, a belt held by the man can become a worthless title later. If you guys want to play this ABC soup belt game, you need to try harder. Because Lineal don't mean jack, especially when in the line fighters were never beat and other titles became more important based on who had it.

It doesn't matter as much as you are suggesting, based on these variables.

    Hill - Maske 1996

    Michalczewski - Hill 1997

Michalczewskis choice of opponents becomes really awful, which leads to:

    Jones Jr - R. Johnson 1999

Jones Jr. eight succesful defences until:

    Tarver - Jones Jr 2004

    G. Johnson - Tarver 2004

    Tarver - G. Johnson 2005

    Tarver - Jones 2005

    Hopkins - Tarver 2006

    Hopkins - Wright 2007

    Calzaghe - Hopkins 2008

    Calzaghe - Jones 2008

    Dawson - G. Johnson 2009

    Pascal - Dawson 2010

    Pascal - Hopkins 2010

    Hopkins - Pascal 2011

    Hopkins - Dawson 2011

I'd agree apart from two counts: I think had Tarver winning the first fight with Johnson. I had hopkins winning his fight with Calzaghe.

Other than that, that's pretty much how I see the history of the division over the last 20 years.

What happened 30 years ago does not matter to the current status of the division.

Its true that neither Erdei od Gonzales are/were relevant to the division
    with their lineal titles.

But is does not change the fact that Roy had no right to be called best
in the division until DM was still unbeaten, active and fought almost
    the same competition as Roy.

The first time ROy could have a claim to be the best LHW was when
    Gonzales beat DM.

I had Tarver winning both fights as well. But it would be a bit much ignoring it I think :D Thought it was close.

Was remembering Jones and DMs opponents sharing a bit wrong. Appart from Hill, it is first after Jones win against Reggie that they really started at it. With Jones doing better against all the common opponents (Hill,Griffin, Harmon,Hall,Gonzalez)

    woahhhhhhhhhh there son.

By your criteria wouldn't that then make gonzalez the best lhw in the world?

You can claim facts all you want, but people make their own judgements and pretty much everyone ranks jones above DM during that time period.

Yes that is right, everyone have its own judgment and Gonzales beating DM (split decision) was THE FIRST official indication Jones was the best since he already beat Gonzales and DM officially lost

... by "everyone" you mean the people who are watching boxing on HBO, right?

He was ok,not a bad fighter, but could have really done more on his home turf--e.g if he'd took on graciano roccigianni in his weight division,it would have been a great fight i.m.o
