He won that title when 168 was a wasteland. By the time he was fighting that heavy he was badly out of shape fat and had lost most of his skills that made him a great amateur. I believe he only lost less than a handful as an Am. Its a shame how his career went as he was a very promising featherweight but as he rose through the weights he lost bouts because of his lack of dedication to training and turned into a journeyman in his later career. I remember when he fought Glenn Catley for the WBC belt. What an upset that was! But to be fair Glenn was an average boxer who did very to win a world title in the 1st place. It just showed how much talent he did posess.Shame about his eating habits and dedication.

THE ROSE OF SOWETO---as Dingaan was known---was one of the better boxers to come out of South Africa---a real class boxer with power as well-----won WBO [M. Aceves] and then WBA [Toney Lopez] at lightweight. He needed to go to the States to have discipline induced by the greatest motivater of all---$$$$$$$--In the ring for toooo long 20 years---a sensational ko of Britains Glen Catley in the dying seconds of the last round-at 168 lbs--also fought and lost to the likes of Kessler--Lucas--Bute..:smoke :smoke

Last seconds of the last round. Very dramatic.

That whole period in the 168lbs was terrible really. The WBC title was on hold for years until everything was sorted out. Here is out it went down. I hope you can follow this.

It all started with Markus Beyer winning the WBC belt from Richard Woodhall in the UK in 1999.

Then Beyer lost his title when he was knocked out by Glenn Catley in 2000.

Then Catley lost his title when was knocked out by Dingaan Thobela with 7 seconds left in the 12 round during the same year.

Then Thobela lost his title in a controversial decision in Montreal against Dave Hilton.

Dave Hilton was then stripped of his title after being convicted of abusing his two daughters.

Catley and Lucas fought for the vacant title. Lucas knocked out Catley (brutal KO) in the 7th round to become the WBC world champion. Still following? lol

After defending his title three times against Thobela (him again? lol), Vinnie Paz and Shieka. Lucas lost his title in a controversial decision in Germany against Beyer.

So Basically the title changed hands like 5-6 times between 5 different fighters in the span of 3 years.
