    Fought a lot of guys I can recognize!
    You type his name on google and since it is a very common name the search gets all over the place and it is hard. Nothing on youtube too, no footage apparently.
    So...

    You guys tell me...... was he good enough to be one of Harry Greb“s best opponents ? Boxrec says Greb fought poorly against him...

    Is him a name I should put in the highest regards !?

    A top contender for like 15 years, also beat the likes of Loughran, McGoorty, Darcy, McTigue. Arguably beat O'Dowd and Greb said that Smith was one of his toughest fights.

    I remember klompton saying he had film of Smith vs. Carpentier and that Smith had a very modern looking cross guard.

    No, but Greb spoke very highly of Smith;

    "He (Smith) has always been a troublesome customer. He gave me a hard battle at New Orleans, but the Cincinnati affair goes down in the book as the roughest voyage I ever experienced inside the ropes. After the fight I went back to my hotel room and called in a doctor. All of the next day hot applications were placed on the injured optic, and I thought I would lose my eyesight. Engel was worried about a scheduled bout with Tom Gibbons in New York, then only three weeks away, but I told him I'd be ready. I suffered considerable pain for four more days, but I managed to climb in against Gibbons and beat him in 15 rounds. Gibbons gave me plenty of trouble, too, but nobody ever punished me like Smith."

    That said, nobody thought Jeff beat Greb in their series.
