Lots of people say he's the hardest puncher in boxing. I just remember him knocking 80 year old Hopkins out of the ring. And he had Bivol looking like me leaving the Phi Sig party when I was a freshman with that at the bell shot. What fights/evidence can y'all point he to? I def know he has big power, but he's never got me thinking he's a legal puncher like an Inoue. Thanks in advance.
He couldnt make a dent in Vlasov And he threw the kitchen sink at Geffard and got a late stoppage. I expected more. Plus he loads up and telegraphs his punches so you can see them coming a mile away.
By no measure is Smith the hardest puncher in boxing. Smith hits hard, but it's nothing special. His KO percentage is only around 70 percent. It's been blown way out of proportion. Beterbiev hits much harder. But Beterbiev may be the chinnier of the two (though neither really is chinny). Callum Johnson wasn't much of a puncher, either, but he dropped Beterbiev and hurt him. Should be a real shootout. Smith has the power to drop Beterbiev. The question is can Smith take Beterbiev's power? I have to attend a family party, so I can't watch it until Sunday.
He's either badly hurt, dropped, stopped or KO'd everyone he's fought since moving up to the world level and becoming a full-time fighter and he may have done at least one of those in the four fights of his that did go the distance prior to then too. He's the only fighter to hurt Bivol This content is protected This content is protected
He hurt Vlasov numerous times and at one point badly - the ref arguably saved Vlasov from a KO defeat that time They don't include it in this brief HL but this sledgehammer right hand from Smith would've flattened most fighters Timestamped This content is protected
Smith didn't stop Sullivan Barrera, Jesse Hart, Maxim Vlasov, Will Rosinsky, Otis Griffin, Lamont Williams, Hamid Mateen, Eddie Caminero or Bivol. Beterbiev hits much harder. But, Smith may have the better chin. We'll see. Should be great. But I don't think Smith wins.
I dunno, man. Those are brutal right hands from Smith. Feel like if the power matches the hype, Vlasov wouldn't be standing.
Hart literally ran and held like a female dog all night. Smith floored him and hurt him at least once more. Smith fought Barrera with a broken jaw for 90% of the fight but he dropped him prior to suffering the break. Vlasov was hurt numerous times, including badly. The ref arguably saved Vlasov from a stoppage loss. He couldn't stop Caminero because he had to pull out in round 4 due to being in agony after getting his jaw broke for the first time Bivol had never been hurt before let alone stopped. Rosinsky and Mateen have never been stopped Griffin, Williams and Mateen were all 6 rounders and Smith was a part-time fighter up until a few years ago. Here's what Otis Griffin has to say about Smith He said that dude is a freaking moose and that it hurt when he hit him and when Smith was leaning on him it felt like he was pushing on a wall This content is protected We know Beterbiev is the harder hitter. He has freakishly heavy hands
its real especially for a lhw an uppercut clean off that man umm i would die liver shot from range with his reach breathing i wouldn't be pissing blood i would
I've never said he was a one punch guy. He has heavy handed bludgeoning power Like I said, he's badly hurt, dropped or stopped everyone he's fought since moving up to the world level. Look at how Mr KO1 Berlangy can't score a KO for love nor money since moving up in class and he's still fighting at a lower level
Are you in the camp that believes he's Top 5 in the sport for power? Many people here have him higher. Like Top 1 or 3.
No but there are different types of power. Smith is a really physically strong guy with very heavy hands. His technique isn't great and like Beterbiev he's trying to bludgeon you into defeat not patiently waiting to catch you with a well-timed deadly KO bomb you don't see coming or walk you into a big counter.
