WBA HW title challenger Jonathan Guidry isn't well known. I had to check boxrec and found: 1) He is ranked # 254 at HW by boxrec 2) Has a draw in a 6-round fight against opponent whom James McKenzie Morrison KO'd in 1 round 3) His best win (by far) - 46 y.o. LHW jorneyman Rodney Moore. I haven't seen his fghts (and never ever heard of him before). So post your interesting facts and opinions about Jonathan Guidry in this thread.
He's a very poor heavyweight with wins over some of the very worst at the very bottom of the division. Someone like Kamil Sokolowski would be several levels better than all of Guidry's opponents.
All the videos of him fighting are filmed from really far away on someone's phone. This content is protected
Had at least one MMA fight. And he "did it for Boovie." (I think that's what the woman is screaming.) This content is protected
His second pro fight ended in a draw with someone named Ronald Baca. Guidry is the guy in the red, white and blue trunks. He avenged his draw by winning the rematch, doing it again for Boovie. This content is protected That's all I've got. "Do it for Boovie, Jon!"
He actually fought Dustin Nichols two years ago. So that would be his most famous win. Going against undoubtedly the largest opponent he will ever face, undefeated heavyweight Jonathan Guidry (15-0-2) of Dulac stopped 411-pound Dustin Nichols of Columbia, Mississippi, in the first round. “He’s a fighter; he was swinging (and missing)," said Guidry, no lightweight himself at 245. “I tried setting him up with some body shots, but they’re weren’t bothering him too much.” With the body shots not having any effect, Guidry ended it with three straight rights to the head, the last of which sent Nichols (5-12) almost tumbling out of the ring, after which referee Bruce McDaniel stopped it. Despite the ease of the victory, Guidry said he has work to do. “I’ve got to start running more and get in better shape,” he said. “I’m not going to be fighting many other people like this.”
Trevor Bryan has beaten nine guys with a winning record. If Guidry wins, he'll have also beaten nine guys with winning records. That's probably all you'll need to know. Oh, and if he wins, Guidry becomes Usyk's WBA mandatory. So that will be fun. How much step-aside money will Guidry get to let Usyk-Fury happen? I just hope someone yells "Do it for Boovie" during the fight. Thanks WBA!!!
Next question; What do we actually know about Trevor Bryan? He stepped up from bumbashing to face former fringe CW contender BJ Flores for some WBA strap back in 2018. Then had an inactive spell (probably covid related) and after beat inactive former one time WBC beltholder Stiverne, who hadn't won a fight in over 5 years, and even that one was controversial. Still, the WBA once again found it appropriate to once again throw one of their many belts into the mix.
There's no such thing as the WBA regular title. Bryan and Guidry are fighting for the WBA heavyweight championship of the world, the original belt held by all the greats like Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Patterson, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis and the list goes on and on. None of whom held the WBA super duper title.
