From what limited film I have seen, I really enjoy his movement and counter punching ability. Looks like an impressive overall technician. What are some of his best performances?
He was a monstrous, formidable talent. Aesthetically very pleasing with great educated footwork, excellent power, an iron chin and very smooth, fluid technique with top-end slipping and countering ability. Shades of Napoles and Duran about his best work, but he often fought with nothing like that level of drive or intensity even against the inferior level of opposition he faced. He might be the best h2h fighter ever to fight at bantam alongside the likes of Jofre and Olivares, but we'll never know sadly as he never faced their level of opposition to see if he could still bring it all to the table against other top class fighters. He trod water with the IBF title for years when unification fights could've been made with the likes of Jibaro Perez and only really stepped up at the end of his career when his best days has passed, though to be fair he acquitted himself well against Vasquez and Junior Jones. I thought be beat Vasquez tbh.
The rematch against Hardy was Canizales at his best, perfectly angled blistering combos to smash Billy to bits after he, Canizales, had been underwhelming in their first fight.
