As for Big George, I guess I was at least partly wrong there, too. It was the psych damage as much as anything else by Ali that afflicted him against Young. I do believe his fight against Lyle (and even the second against Frazier, for instance) would have been much easier and swifter had he jabbed more often (and at the right times).

I also believe George (though he used the jab more in his comeback) would have been more impressive overall in both the 80s and 90s had he used the punch a lot more.

I don't think you were entirely off on Foreman, as we discussed he could've possibly beat Young but here's the post I was referring to.

Foremans jab was never better than against Frazier. Archie Moore had teached him to use it to measure the distance and keep Frazier on the backfoot. It worked perfectly. Foreman should´ve stuck to the simplicity of the jab - the straight left - if so he would´ve defeated Ali and stayed the champ for a decade.
But he wanted to throw punches, wild swings and he became a victim od his own lack of strategy.
But never against Frazier.
However, on the night of March 8 - 1971 - no one in the history of boxing could´ve won against Frazier - he was a human tank, and I think he would´ve cought up with Foremans chin during the last 5 rounds of the 15 rounder.

I highly agree with you. I also don't regard Liston highly, and believe that he was extremely overrated. His resume is absolutely terrible and is filled with Light Heavyweights, journeymen, nobodies and tomato cans. It's hard to consider someone an ATG who has only two notable wins against the overrated Cleveland "Big Bum" Williams and Floyd Patterson who had a glass chin, and was literally 20 pounds lighter. He was avoided by very low quality fighters. His power was also overrated given that he outmuscled and beat up small men and tomato cans.

Liston cleared out the division before getting his long overdue shot.Beating Harris,Folley,Machen,Summerlin,Williams who did he miss ? If he had gotten his shot earlier say in 58 when he was ranked no9 he probably would have beaten Patterson and racked up half a dozen defences before losing to Ali.
