Canelo is probably chasing the Golovkin fight, he would just prefer a bigger split of the purse than what the WBC mandated.

He is Mexican and appeals to the latino fanbase. If Canelo was from Mongolia nobody in the USA would care about him. That tells you all you need to know about his "achievements".

Well, technically, there is no rule saying that you can be lineal champion without being an actual champion.

he doesn't want to get knocked out and labeled as just a hype job that will shatter all business plans for him. since he is not that skilled and powerful, expect staged ko's to come against named opponents just keep him relevant like what they did with khan even though he came from two weight classes below. canelo is just for business that will just continue corruption of the sport.

Well Foreman did similar after koing moorer.Got stripped from Wba for not fighting Tucker. Then Ibf stripped him for not giving Shultz a reamatch.
He claimed he was still linear champion even won some bougus wbu titles... when asked of possibilaty of fights against Lewis or bowe he told that he is not crazy:D

There’s more that go into these negotiations than just the split of the purse. Saying that is insulting to Canelo in my opinion, making it seem like he’s only after $$. (like GG or any other fighter doesn’t want to make the most money possible)

If Canelo and GG were to agree to 160, then Canelo should have the opportunity to become unified champion. (All of GG’s titles put on the line) If Canelo were to agree to 160, then Canelo should ensure that there aren't any rehydration clauses.

There are a lot of ways that this fight could be negotiated, and there are a lot of aspects to the negotiations. It’s more than just Canelo not liking the split that the WBC proposed. It’s not easy getting the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO to agree to the same terms.

Having All 4 Titles on the Line should be what Canelo’s side is seeking. If GG wants 160, then Canelo’s side should counter that demand by ensuring there is no rehydration clause. (even for the IBF which has been known to have rehydation clauses)

This is not an easy negotiation. The split could depend on how many titles are put on the line. There’s a lot of ways this can go, but I think the majority of fans want to see it at 160 for all 4 titles, with no rehydration clauses. GG could demand a larger purse if he would agree to a catchweight, but I’m not sure that is necessary or good for boxing given what we have seen with catchweights in recent years. Lets hope that both sides come to an agreement along the lines of what I have outlined.

This is one fight that should be done right, where there is a SuperFight feel to it and that the winner has all the belts.

True, and unlike Canelo, he didn't even bother making a defense of it first, but he did obtain it by defeating Evander Holyfield. Canelo has the distinction of winning the lineal MW title from a natural welterweight, making a defense versus a natural lightweight/140lber, and then exiting stage left without having fought a real middleweight before/during/after his reign.

One could maybe stretch the comparison to say that Holyfield was still then perceived by some as being a "blown up Cruiser" the same way Cotto is considered a blown up welter that maneuvered his way into the lineal MW championship, but...eh. :!:

If you don't fight other top middleweights then there is no title. It's like being retired. It goes to the next guy who is fighting top ranked middleweights.

So if canelo isn't a middleweight then what is he? 155 isn't a weight class, and he hasn't fought at 154 in years so what weight class does he belong to "isal"?

He was ranked as a Jr. MW until he beat Cotto.

He's the youngest fighter to win a title at 154. That in itself is historical:deal end thread.

That proves that lineal titles are completely worthless now.

Bull. None of GGG previous defences had a rehydration clause and he always had all of his titles on the line. That was not a subject of discussion.

Canelo and Oscar just knew that they would lose, so they ducked.
