In this forum there are two parties. In one there are those who say Wilder is one of the greatest punchers of all time in the other those who are convinced during his career Wilder fought only bums and he remains always the one seen against Romanov at the Olympics. As in all things the truth lies in the middle and for me the truth is that Wilder is an excellent boxer, very clever and that over time he has improved a lot in aim, power and timing even if he still technically has some limits. If someone has an even more rational opinion on the unique and winning career of Wilder, don't hesitate to say it because in this forum the confusion on this theme went through the roof..

He both punches very hard and has faced less than stellar competition thus far.

    /End thread.

He wouldn't give Dustin Nichols a good financial deal for a rematch.

He has fought bums ...a lot of them...

40 fights, and I have to rattle my brain to figure out who is worth mentioning in his record...

    40 fights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AJ has like 26 or something and they are way more memorable.

He fought a huge number of low-level fighters for the majority of his career which he was able to bowl over or get ref stoppages on. When he moved up he fought a couple of washed up name opponents like Audley and Lyakhovich then engaged in a fixed fight with Malik Scott to ensure a title fight with Bermane Stiverne. Stiverne took him the distance.

Following his win he defended against a lot of B- and C-level guys like Molina, Duhaupas and Szpilka. Molina was no great shakes, and had been KOed before, so Wilder scoring a late stoppage on him wasn't unexpected. Duhaupas was a tough journeyman type who gave Wilder rounds but didn't have the skills to avoid a ref stoppage late in the fight. Szpilka was a glass jawed but tricky customer who Wilder had problems with before he connected with a clean shot and laid Szpilka out. Arreola was washed up and brought in on short notice; a stoppage was inevitable there.

In recent years he's stepped up his level of competition and gotten a couple of good KOs over Ortiz (old but still handy) and a first round KO of Breazeale, so there's some justification in those declaiming his punching prowess, but his KO ratio is to a large degree smoke and mirrors because of how thin his resume is relative to his total number of fights.

Because he primarily fights the morbidly obese (Stivern, Arreola), otherwise sick (OrtizX2), part time fighters (Duhaupas, Molina), crusiers (Szpilka) and other assorted talent-free stiffs (Washington, Beazele).

The only real fighter he has faced was Fury, and he was clearly beaten by a guy who just lost 150 pounds and kicked a drug habit.

The opposition he's faced slot of well past prime fighters etc, when he fought fighters with some ability he looks average Ortiz and Fury but he has the right hand as an equaliser

Truth is that he had very good technique. At least for the right hand. He has absolute no pull back what so ever and throws the punch in a very straight and a efficient line.
Wlad or lewis right hands are miles away from wilder. He is also extremely fast for his height and i dont think he will find a hw champion in the next years who was more underrated then wilder.

Has incredible fast twitch. Stays very lean and in great shape but still is very strong despite low bodyfat.

Most of his Highlite Reel KO Victims are Soccer Hooligans, Full Time Cab Drivers, Cable TV Installer's, Arreola 1 Round KO leftovers, WalMart Cart Pushers, Morbidly Obese Buffet Restaurant Fry Cooks, and other assorted Record Padders...
