Well I'm sure Harold Letterman has forgotten more about boxing than
you'll ever learn. He's a terrific boxing judge and analyst and he saw
Pavlik winning most of the rounds on effective aggressiveness, a
terrific, accurate jab followed by many powerful straight righthands.
Merchant pretty much concurred with Harold's assessment. Both
Manny and Taylor felt they were behind in the fight and Kelly himself
thought the fight was much closer than the ringside judges had it.
I bring this up because Kelly is a real humble guy but he knew he
put a huge beating on Taylor throughout that action packed fight.
In fact he stated that he didn't think it was his huge powerpunches
late in the 7th round that caused the K.O. but rather the accumulation
of punches throughout the fight that broke Taylor down. If the
fight was as one-sided in Taylor's direction as you seem to feel
then you must assume Taylor has a china chin. I mean he's laying
a one-sided beating on the hapless Pavlik and suddenly boom,
Kelly lands one flush right and it's lights out for Germaine? Get real
and learn to judge a fight. Swedone is right. Noone was clearly
winning that fight. It was a back and forth battle between two
superior athletes who hurt each other at different times. The
judges scores should have more accurately reflected that reality.
Sorry, long post but I'm sick of incompetent boxing judges.

Scorecards were fine, your guy won, give it up.

Taylor had 4rds on my card, Pavlik 2. With the point for the KD. Thats 58 - 55.

If you gave Pavlik one more round it was 57 - 56. Either one is fine, but don't pretend that Kelly was winning the fight at the time of the stoppage, he wasn't.. but he was coming on, and probably would of won the fight on the cards at the end if the fight continued on the way it was going.

I thought Jermaine got stupid, but he looked gassed (as usual) and didn't stick to his gameplan, he had that right hand over the top all night if he wanted to use it, but his defense has too many holes with holding that left hand so low, and as the fight wore on his reflexes weren't there to roll with those punches, thus the KO.

I give all the credit to Pavlik, he got up of the floor and won the fight. I do gotta say I'm disappointed in Taylor for letting Pavlik off the hook and running out of gas, because I think he proved for a good portion of the fight he was the quicker and stronger man, but his stamina issues and defense will always be his downfall with a guy who is uptempo and can punch.
