Rounds are judged using 4 criteria. 1) Effective Aggression 2) Clean punching 3) Ring Generalship 4) Defense with, of course, a strong emphasis on CLEAN EFFECTIVE punching. Generally, when scoring a round, I simply think to myself something like "Which fighter would I have rather been for that round?" and base my scoring on that. This is particularly applicable in cases where Fighter A lands 40 punches but Fighter B lands 20 much harder punches that clearly do more damage. Fighter A doesn't deserve the round simply because he touched the guy more. Anyways, on to the MAB-PAC fight. Pac was the more aggressive throughout the whole fight. This is very clear, and basically undebatable. While Pac may have landed more punches, I would say this is a closer area than others might. Barerra's right hand counters were crisp and landed on the button. He landed his jab pretty well, when he wasn't just using it to keep Pac at a distance, and his body shots cleanly. Pac landed more, but they weren't all exactly great punches, many partly hitting the gloves or upper arms of Barerra. I think Barerra dominated in terms of Ring Generalship. He kept circling to his right, kept his lead foot on the outside of Pacs, and basically controlled the tempo of the fight. He fought when he wanted to, stayed back when he wanted to, and led Pac around the ring all night. I also think Barerra did better defensively. Pac may have landed more punches, but I am convinced that many of them only partially landed. Barerra kept at a good distance most of the fight, except for when Pac would jump in and flurry every now and again, and held Pac off with his jab. Finally, I am supposed to give a strong emphasis on clean and effective punching. I felt that Barerra landed the cleaner shots, and I felt that Barerra's shots hurt Pac more than Pac's hurt Barerra. Pac did land more, however, so this is a close area too. I kept score in my head, 6-5-1 Barerra, so, I am going to have to wait and rewatch the fight for my round by round. Either way, LET ME HAVE IT!
pac just did more from what i saw. some may have preferred the better quality of some of barrera's shots. but marco simply wasn't doing enuff from what i saw. :nono and i wanted barrera to go out in style as well.
